‫حي ِمۡ‬ ‫َّ‬ ‫ٰ‬
‫بِس ِم اّٰللِ الرۡح ِن الر ِ‬
 Madd Asli
If a stretched letter appears before anything else (i.e., other than
Hamzah. Sukoon and Shaddah, It will be stretched for 2 Harakahs.

ُ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ َّ َ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َّ َ ۡ َ ٰ ۡ َ ‫َ َۡ ۡ ُ ه‬

Fathah followed by a joining Alif: Long Fathah:

٥ ‫اِياك نعبد واِياك نستعِي‬ ٢‫ي‬ ِۙ ‫ب العل ِم‬ ِ ‫اۡلمد ِّٰللِ ر‬

ُ ُ َ ُۡ ٌ َ َ َ ٰ ٰ َ ٗ َّ ِ َ
Dhammah followed by a joining Waw Sakin:

Long Dhammah:

ِۙ ِ ‫ب انل‬
١ ‫اس‬ ِ ‫قل اعوذ بِر‬ ٧ ۚ ‫وانه لَع ذل ِك لش ِهيد‬
َ َّ ۡ ٌَۡ َ ۡ ۡ ٌ ۡ ُ َ َ َ َ َ ۡ ۡ َّ ِ
Kasrah followed by a joining Yaa Sakin: Long Kasrah:

٥ ‫جي ِدها حبل مِن مس ٍد‬

ِ ‫ِِف‬ ٦ ۚ ‫اۡلنسان ل ِرب ِ ٖه لـكنود‬ ِ ‫ان‬

Madd Asli: If a stretched letter appears
before anything else (i.e., other than
Hamzah. Sukoon and Shaddah, It will
be stretched for 2 Harakahs.
 Madd Leen
If a Fathah is followed by joining Waw Sakinah or Yaa Sakinah it will
be stretched for 2 Harakahs.

Note: Fathah followed by a joining Alif is NOT Madd Leen, it is Madd Asli.

anything else (i.e., other than Hamzah. Sukoon

Madd Leen: If a Fathah is followed by joining

Waw Sakinah or Yaa Sakinah it will be stretched
for 2 Harakahs.
 Madd Mutasil
If after a stretched letter, a Hamzah appears in the SAME word, the
stretch will be lengthened to 4 Harakahs.
