B. Acquisition
Statistics- it is a branch of mathematics that deals with the collection, organization,
presentations, analysis, and interpretation of data.

Common terms in statistics

Population- a collection or set of individuals objects or events whose properties are to
be analyzed.
Sample- is a sub-collection of elements drawn from a population.

Probability sampling- all members of the population are known.

Non-probablity sample- all members of the population are not known.

Types of Probability samples

Random sample- Member of your sample are selected through lottery.

Systematic sample- members of your population in a list systematically with
corresponding number.
Stratified random sample- member of your population are grouped. You can choose
equal number of respondents in each group, or in proportion to the number of
elements in each group.
Cluster sample-member of your population are grouped. Selection of all respondents
are in group. You can choose all the respondents in your selected group.
Types of non-probability sample
Purposive sample- the sample is selected based on the objectives or purpose of the
study.
Convenience sample- samples are chosen because of their availability.
Quota sample- It is a process of selecting a sample based on a specified number of
members needed in the study.
Snowball sample- this is also known as referral sampling wherein the researchers ask
referrals from the participants to locate potential member of the sample who are
harder to find.
