Words from the basket
Can you add some words that are not here?
Are these words in this basket related to one another?
If we group words according to their similarity, what do you call to this process?

. Discussion of the Lesson

When do we group or classify words?
Let us try to find for the word that shouldn’t belong to the group and tell me why
did you say so.
1. Mango, Grapes, Ampalaya, Apple (fruits)
2. Uncle, Brother, Priest, Mother (males)
3. Japan, Philippines, China, Nueva Ecija ( countries)
4. Dog, Tiger, Lion, Zebra (zoo animals)
5. Rose, Santan, Bougainvillea, Oregano (flowering plants)

Look for the missing word/s in each sentence. Remember to find the
relationship of the first two words if they are similar or different with one
another so that you can identify the missing word.
1. A cat is to animal as rose is to ______.
2. A mother is to girl as father is to ______.
3. Feet are to walk as hands are to _______.
4. Tree is to climb as sea is to __________.
5. A fire is to hot as ice to ____________.
How did you get the answer? What did you use as a basis?
If you used the first pair of words and look for their relationship as the basis of
finding the missing word, what do you call to this process?
Will it be hard for you to find the missing if you cannot identify first the first pair of
words?
So, what you must do to find the correct word in the analogy?
What is an analogy?

Word Classification is categorizing something or someone into a certain group or

system based on certain characteristics.
Generalization An analogy is a comparison of two things that may have similar or opposite
characteristics or features.
