What is communication
Communication is a word of Latin
origin.Communis, which means
common, it means sharing of
information or intelligence. It is
sharing ideas, thought, facts,
opinion, information and
understanding from one person to
another.

Definition of communication
Communication is the process of
meaningful interaction among
human beings. More specially , it is
the process by which meaning are
perceived and understandings are
reached among human beings.

Verbal communication: In this
case of verbal communication
everything is oral and there is
nothing in black and white.
Written communication: It is
always in black and white

Formal communication: Are
mostly in black & white. It derive
their support from the formal
organisational structure.
Informal communication: On the
other hand are free from all sorts of
formalities. They are based on the
informal relationship between the
parties.

On the basis of direction


Upward: Reaction & suggestion from
employee, their grievances, etc. Helps in
motivation of employee.
Downward: It flows from the uppermost
level of management towards the operative
force. It include rules & regulation, orders,
policies, instruction, guidelines.
Horizontal: It is lateral or crosswise
communication, if it takes place between
two subordinates of the same superior.
