OBJECTIVE:
• To sense the presence of an activated mobile phone around a certain area,
so that it can be used to prevent use of mobile phones in examination
halls, confidential rooms, etc.
• It is also useful for detecting the use of mobile phone for spying and un-
authorized video transmission.
• We are most familiar with cell phone active detectors.
ABSTRACT:
• This is a handy, pocket-size mobile transmission detector or sniffer.
• It works from a distance of one and half meters.
• The circuit can detect the in coming and outgoing calls, and SMS even if the
mobile phone is kept in the silent mode.
• The transmission frequency of mobile phone ranges from 0.9 to 3GHz with a
wave length of 3.3 to 10cm.

ELEMENTS USED IN MOBILE PHONE DETECTOR:
• IC CA3130
• IC NE555
• T1 BC548
• ANTENNA
• PIEZO BUZZER
• 5 INCH LONG ANTENNA
• ON/OFF SWITCH
• POWER SUPPLY
IC’S USED IN MOBILE PHONE DETECTOR:
IC CA3130

• CA3130 are op amps that combine

the advantage of both CMOS and
bipolar transistors.
• Ideal for Single-Supply Applications
• Common-Mode Input-Voltage
Range Includes Negative Supply
Rail; Input Terminals can be Swung
0.5V Below Negative Supply Rail
• CMOS Output Stage Permits Signal
Swing to Either (or both) Supply
Rails
IC NE555

• The 555 timer IC is an integrated

circuit used in a variety of timer, pulse
generationand oscillator applications.
• The 555 can be used to provide time
delays, as an oscillator, and as a flip-flop
element.
• Derivatives provide two (556) or four
(558) timing circuits in one package.
TRANSISTOR:
T1 BC548

• BC548 is general purpose silicon,

NPN, bipolar junction transistor.
• It is used for amplification and
switching purposes.
• The current gain may vary between
110 and 800.
• The maximum DC current gain is
800
ANTENNA:
• The antenna consists of a
radiating element that
splits the rods and make
current flow through the
center by using a feeder
at the transmitter out
that takes from the
receiver.
• Transmitter and receiver
antennas are often very
similar in design.
PIEZO BUZZER
• Piezo buzzer is an electronic
device commonly used to produce
sound.
• Light weight, simple construction
and low price make it usable in
various applications like car/truck
reversing indicator, computers,
call bells etc.
• Piezo electric materials are either
naturally available or manmade
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:
WORKING:
• When mobile phone is active, it transmits the signal in the form of sine
wave which passes through the space.
• The moment the bug detects RF transmission signal from an activated
mobile phone, it starts sounding a beep alarm and the LED blinks.
• The alarm continues until the signal transmission ceases.
• The encoded audio/video signal contains electromagnetic radiation which
is picked up by the receiver in the base station.
• An ordinary RF detector using tuned LC circuits is not suitable for detecting
signals in the GHz frequency band used in mobile phones.
ADVANTAGES
• The key advantages that have allowed transistors to replace their vacuum tube
predecessors in most applications are
• Small size and minimal weight, allowing the development of miniaturized
electronic devices
• Highly automated manufacturing processes, resulting in low per-unit cost.
• Lower possible operating voltages, making transistors suitable for small, battery-
powered applications.
• No warm-up period for cathode heaters required after power application.
• Lower power dissipation and generally greater energy efficiency.
• Higher reliability and greater physical ruggedness.
APPLICATIONS:
Cell phone detector is useful where the use of mobile phone is prohibited
like:
• Examination halls
• Hospitals
• Petrol pumps
• Gas stations
• Military bases
• Court of laws
• Historical places
CONCLUSION:
• This pocket size mobile transmission detector or sniffer can sense the
presence of an activated mobile phone from a distance of one and half
meters.
• So it can be used to prevent use of mobile phones in examination halls ,
confidential rooms.
• The illegal use of cell phones is a growing and dangerous problem in
correctional institutions worldwide. These devices are a significant threat
to prison security and circumvent the monitoring processes in prisons,
while helping inmates commit new crimes both inside and outside the
facility.
FUTUREWORK:
• The proto type version has only limited range of 2meters.
• But if a preamplifier stage using JFET or MOSFET transistor is used as an
interface between the capacitor and IC range can be increased.
