British Youth Pitch

By Finlay Bell
Topic:
● For the subject of my productions I chose to focus on mental health or more
specifically adhd in British Youth.
● One reason I chose to focus on adhd is because I have adhd and I Feel that it isn’t
given much representation in the media.
● Another reason as to why I chose it was due to the fact that not many people fully
understand adhd so I wanted to try and shed more light on it.
Research:
● For my research I looked at different articles that explained the definition of mental
health and adhd, how someone develops adhd as well as the symptoms of the
condition.
● This research helped me in creating more believable characters and events for my
productions which helped them to be easier to understand.
● Here are some of the articles I used:

Ideas:
● I decided that my productions should follow the characters being in class or doing
their daily routine. This would help the audience connect with them more.
● For my animation I used lego due to its creative versatility and the fact that any
generation can have fun with lego.
● I decided that I should only use one part of adhd as to not get too complex and so
that audiences wouldn’t get confused

Producing the productions
● Production for both my animation and short film went mostly according to plan
aside from some minor problems.
● The animation was the hardest to produce as I had to keep track of the amount of
frames I took, I wasn’t able to keep the camera stable throughout and at times I had
to get into uncomfortable positions to achieve a certain shot.
● The short film was much easier but I encountered some problems while shooting
scenes at home. This was due to having to film by myself with no help so I became
very limited with the amount of shots I could perform.
● I did enjoy working with friends when I was filming at other locations for my short
film as I could get their input and I was able to achieve a wider array of shots.
Feedback:
● The majority of feedback I received was positive and people really enjoyed the
productions. This meant that I was able to meet the requirements of my target
audience.
● I did receive a few criticisms of my productions. I was told that the message in the
animation was a bit hard to understand fully due to it being too vague. I also found
that audiences didn’t enjoy the use of an ear ringing sound effect I used in my short
film.
Moving Forward:
● While making these productions I was able to learn some new skills. Some of these
skills helped my animation as I learnt how to create a stop motion more efficiently
as well as how to batch process. I was also able to improve my editing skills while
making the short film and as a result I could complete it faster.
● While I was able to learn new skills there are still some areas in which I need to
improve. One of these is my camera work which was criticised for being to unstable
in my animation. However, it can be easily fixed by using a tripod next time.
● One area in productions that I was good at was the writing as for both productions
the audience enjoyed the narrative I made. Another area I was good in was the
sound design as audiences liked my choice of music in the short film and the sound
effects in my animation.
