Two types of instruments :


The questionnaires:
 1st questionnaire: 14 questions, 6 teachers of English
listening skills
 2nd questionnaire: 14 questions, 60 second year students
The interviews:
 1st interview : 5 questions, 2 teachers of English listening
skills
 2nd interview : 4 questions, 10 second year students

6. Results of the study
1. The real situation of second year students of FFL at
UTEHY about practicing English listening skills
 A half of students agreed that their target to learn
listening skills because they thought “It is necessary
for their study”(Table 1 )
 Both teachers and students stated that watching
videos on YouTube were interested and useful.(Chart
3 ;Chart 4 )
 Students often use 1-3 h /week to learn English on
YouTube while teachers use less than 1 h /week (Chart
5)
6. Results of the study
1. The real situation of second year students of FFL at
UTEHY about practicing English listening skills
- After being introduced about TEDx Talks channel on
YouTube to learn English
 listening skills were the most favourite skills (Chart 6 )
 most of them favoured topic “ Life” (Table 2 )
 Most of students and teachers strongly believed that
listening skills were “Very important” (Chart 7 )
6. Results of the study

1. The real situation of second year students of FFL at


UTEHY about practicing English listening skills
 Students often listen to English new words “In English
listening lessons at school”; “When listening English
songs or watching English movies/ TV shows” and “When
practicing English abilities at home” (Table 3 )
 Both students and teachers appreciated that spending 2
hours to learn listening skills through TEDx Talks channel
in a day were suitable. (Chart 8)

2. The benefits of this channel to students
 “Students’ listening ability and vocabulary sources”;
“Difficulties in listening English words clearly, especially
the strange words”; “Difficulties in listening and
understand new phrases which are used in videos
through TEDx Talks” were 3 main factors effect to
students’ ability when watching TEDx Talks videos.(Chart
9)

 Most of students and teachers believed that watching


videos on TEDx Talks channel affect learning English
“Very much” and “Much” (Chart 10)

2. The benefits of this channel to students


 Students and teachers agreed that “To increase students
motivation for learning English” and “To get more
knowledge about human, society and soft skills” were 2
main targets which watching videos through TEDx Talks
bring.(Chart 11 )
 Improving listening skills and Improving English
vocabulary were 2 main benefits by TEDx Talks videos,
given by students’ and teachers’ ideas.(Table 4)

skills
 Before watching a video, students liked “Prepare their
vocabulary” ; “Prepare a pen and paper to note down the
conversation” and “Watch suitable videos to their English
level as well as their hobby”.(Chart 12 )
 After watching, students would like “Speak after the
sentences of the conversation” and “Translate the
conversation”. (Chart 13)
Interviews
 Most of participants spent the time for watching
videos for learning and teaching English purpose.
 About a half of them had some information about
TEDx Talks channel.
 Beside the researcher’s methods, students talked
about some another ways to learn English listening
skills effectively through TEDx Talks
 Teachers liked choosing suitable videos for their
students, hide the subtitles when showing it and give
some tasks for them after watching
7. Recommendations
To students :
 Before watching videos on TEDx Talks channel
 Prepare the vocabulary
 Prepare a pen and paper to note down
 Choose suitable videos to their English level as well as their hobby.
 While watching videos on TEDx Talks channel
 Note down words
 Copy the intonation
 Listen many times
 After watching videos on TEDx Talks channel
 Speak after the sentences
 Translate the conversation
 Review your note
 Note the sayings
7. Recommendations

To teachers :
 Before watching videos on TEDx Talks channel :
 Choose suitable videos for their students
 While watching videos on TEDx Talks channel :
 Hide the subtitles
 After watching videos on TEDx Talks channel :
 Giving some tasks after watching the video
