Gawin ang ‘’drop, cover, and hold’’.

How to use Fire Extinguishers Mga Paalala o Warning Signal Habang may sunog: Huwag magpanic. Emergency Kit
Role of the The Nurse in Disasters fundamental attributes of the nursing practice are to provide care to the injured or ill, assist individuals and families to deal with physical and emotional issues and work to improve health and well- being within the community. MAJOR ROLES OF NURSE IN DISASTER Define health needs of the affected groups Establish priorities and objectives Identify actual and potential public health problems Determine resources needed to respond to the needs identified Collaborate with other professional disciplines, governmental and non-governmental agencies Maintain a unified chain of command ADVANCED TRIAGE CATEGORIES 3ZONES DisasterOF DISASTER zone: - It is the actual location of the incident from where patient are to be removed as soon as possible. Majority of disaster personnel are sent to this zone initially. Treatment zone:- Nurses spend most of their time in their zone during a disaster, where equipment and personnel to carry out patient care are concentrated. Activities carried out in this zone includes. - Assessment of each patient - Treatment of injuries - Preparation for transport. Transportation zone: - It should be situated directly next to the treatment zone so that ambulances and other vehicles can load patient and leave for hospitals. delivering appropriate patient care: R –FireRescue. Hospital Safety Plans Get everyone out of the hospital as efficiently as possible A – Alarm. As soon as possible, assign a person or a group to activate the emergency response - call the fire department, activate a manual pull station, send out a code over the PA system – do anything you can to alert people of a fire and get help as quickly as possible. C – Confine. Once the rescue and alarm stages are in action, switch gears and try to confine the fire as well as possible. E – Extinguish. If possible, attempt to use a fire extinguisher to put out as much of the fire as possible. This stage of your hospital fire safety plan should be undertaken only if evacuation has already started and the fire department is on their way. Main Concern in Fire Emergency Plan 1. Stop and prevent the spread of fire. 2. Evacuate patients/personnel, records and equipment. 3. Allay panic 4. Be able to render emergency treatment for various forms of fire related injuries i.e., wound Stop and prevent spread of fire What everyone should know Location of the fire extinguisher in the unit. How to operate them. a. Pull the pin b. Aim the extinguisher with nozzle pointing at the base of the flames c. Squeeze the hand trigger as you hold the extinguisher upright d. Sweep the extinguisher from side to side, covering the area/base of the flames Stop and prevent spread of fire Location of fire hydrants/hose/water source When and how to use wet blankets or rugs when necessary. Place wet blankets on top of the small fire to keep out the fire. Evacuate patients/personnel, records and equipment Removal/Evacuation of Patients 1. Do not move patients unless with specific instruction from the safety officer. 2. Move patients with utmost caution bring along their charts and medications. 3. When patients are moved out from the room, close the doors and windows. 4. Everyone should know the location of the exits nearest to the room to be evacuated, the location of the keys to the exits, or the exit to be used, ensure that exits are free from any obstruction. 5. Evacuation priorities shall be as follows Evacuate patients/personnel, records and equipment Evacuation priorities shall be as follows FIRST those nearest the source of fire or posed with greatest danger or those farthest from safety SECOND helpless patients, use available stretcher. If none, roll in top covers and carry with help by grasping blanket under the patient. THIRD wheelchairs patient, wrap in blankets and wheel out towards exit FOURTH walking patients; wrap in blanket and lead towards exit. Allay fear and panic The greatest danger in hospital fires is panic caused by fear or smoke. BE CALM! Fear and panic can do as much damage as fire. Patients usually become aware of the existence of fire. Reassure them that the alarm has been turned on and that the emergency plan has been activated. DO NOT BECOME ALARMED YOURSELF. Hospital earthquake response plan What all people inside the hospital should do:
Keep calm and do not panic. Think through any action you might take for the consequences it may cause.
Response during the shaking If inside the room, For ambulatory persons (staff, visitors, and patients): Open the door to prevent possible jamming. You may stand under the door frame. Move away from windows, glass, light fixtures, bookshelves, or any structure that could fall on you. “Duck, cover and hold” under sturdy tables if present. Stand or sit near concrete columns. Watch out for falling objects. Response during the shaking For bed-ridden patients: Have a pillow on their heads to protect them from falling objects.
For staff and patients in the operating, delivery, and treatment
rooms: If in the middle of an operation or procedure, stop for a while but make sure there is NO ongoing bleeding, oxygenation is maintained, and the life of your patients is NOT unduly compromised. Watch out for falling objects and be ready to protect the patients and yourself. Remain in this position until the “shaking” stops. Response after the shaking What all people inside the hospital should do: Be alert. Prepare for possible evacuation. Listen for evacuation announcement or order. Watch out for fire, potential explosion, gas leaks, damage to electrical system, damage to water system. Turn off gas, electrical and water lines if indicated. Report cracks on the wall to hospital authorities. Evacuation What all people inside the hospital should do: Evacuate the hospital building and proceed using pre- determined routes to go to identified evacuation areas. Use the stairs if still available and functional. If not, use the fire escape route. While walking along the corridors to the nearest exit of the building, be alert and look out for falling debris. Patients confined to beds and disabled people – wait for hospital evacuation teams to assist you. Monitoring of confined patients and injured individuals in evacuation areas At the designated evacuation areas, all evacuated confined patients as well as injured individuals must be monitored not only in terms of head count but also medically as indicated.
