VARIOUS RAISING METHOD

 RAISING METHODS
Raising is a regular operation in the development of metalliferous
mines. It is associated with danger of accidents due to fall o roof
rock, inadequate ventilation resulting in the poor visibility at the
work site and uncomfortable working condition.
VARIOUS RAISING METHOD

 OPEN RAISING BY DRILLING,BLASTING,MUCKING

APPLICABILITY:
• Inclination should be 40-60 degree.
• Strata and wall rock are strong.
• Length of raise is moderate(up to 8m).

DISADVANTAGES:
• Lack of ventilation.
• Damage to pipes and ladders from the blasting.
• Loss of efficiency when the raise go higher as the workers have to
frequently go up and down the ladders.
• Platform holes require careful alignment.
OPEN RAISING BY DRILLING,BLASTING,MUCKING
 TWO OR THREE COMPARTMENT RAISING

ADVANTAGE:
 Efficient and direct handling of broken rock by chute for
quick loading directly into tubes.
 
DISADVANTAGES:
 Consumes a large quantity of timber.
 Sluggish ventilation.
TWO OR THREE COMPARTMENT RAISING

CYCLE OF OPERATION:
 Inspection and dressing down of loose rocks,
 Timbering,
 Extending the ladder way,
 Construction of working stage and drilling,
 Removing of working stage,
 Charging,
 Firing and,
 Clearing the smoke.
 RAISING WITHTWO COMPARTMENT METHOD

ADVANTAGES:
 Greatly simplified by use of special raise-driving machine.
 It gives fast progress with less risk.
 Enable drivage of large cross section over long distance.

DISADVANTAGES:
 It requires a number of subsidiary tasks (building stages
and ladder ways, their extension and repair).
RAISING BY LONG HOLE DRILLING

Applicability condition:
 Max. 35 degree from vertical.
 Max. 50 m causes deviation.
Advantages:
 Lowest cost per meter of the opening driven.
 Highest drivage speed.
 There is no need for miners present at the face.
Limitations:
 Holes of 15-50 m at max. inclination of 35 degree off
vertical as longer holes would result in deviation.

RAISING WITH ALIMAK RAISE CLIMBER
 JORA RAISING METHOD
Advantages:
 Driving of the both vertical & inclined raise at a steep
angle up to 100 m.
 It is economical.
 Work operation is simple & in extensive.
 Jora lift puts an end to dangerous climbing and open
shaft working.
 The lift is operated from the inside cage and can be
maneuvered, precisely into optimum working condition.
This system eliminates accidents due to misunderstood
signal.
 The rope hole serves the purpose of burn cut hole.
 RAISE BORER METHOD

 Down Reaming:- The Reaming of pilot hole from upper

level to lower level. Down reaming method demands
pilot hole of large diameter to permit rock cutting to
pass through the hole in the space between drill rod
and hole side. The size of raise drill is 1 m to 3.7 m.

 Up Reaming:- The drilling of pilot hole from lower level

to the upper level. Generally up reaming is adopted for
reaming the long hole. In up reaming method, the rock
cutting fall down in the face by gravity and the pilot
hole need not to be of large diameter.
RAISE BORER METHOD
 RAISE BORER METHOD

Advantages:-
 Faster drilling is cost competitive.
 Personal are not exposed to hazard of raise drilling.
 Furnished section is smooth hence friction is less.
 No support, no explosives are required.
 Raising cost per meter becomes less as raise length
increases (speed of boring pilot hole is 2-3 m/h &
reaming speed is 1-1.5 m/h).
 RAISE BORER METHOD

 Blind Hole Raise Drill or Box Hole Drill
 DROP RAISING METHOD

Advantages:-
 No workers are required at lower level except LHD
operator.
 No side dressing & roof dressing is required.
 The method is safe & fast.
