MAEE 111
The Child and the Learning Process
The child and the learning process
Important Concepts;
• The child/human – growth and development
• Learning – theories
Human Development

• Involves the studies of the human condition

• Ongoing process that continues all throughout life
• Follows a predictable pattern but, varies in rate
Human development
• Is a multi-dimensional concept
• According to UN in HDI, there are three key dimensions in HD
namely;
1. A long and healthy life
2. Being knowledgeable
3. Have a decent standard of living
Learning concept
• Learning is the relatively permanent change in a person’s knowledge or
behavior due to experience. This definition has three components: 1) the
duration of the change is long-term rather than short-term; 2) the locus of
the change is the content and structure of knowledge in memory or the
behavior of the learner; 3) the cause of the change is the learner’s
experience in the environment rather than fatigue, motivation, drugs,
physical condition or physiologic intervention.”

Learning Theories
Provide the basis for learning

understanding, or a world view, is acquired or changed and knowledge
and skills retained (Wikipedia)
