1. FACTS

• An opinion is defined as a view of judgment, or
appraisal drawn from facts. It is usually a concept or
impression based on factual evidence.

• An opinion statement is composed mainly of a


debatable topic and a focus (i.e., the specific feeling or
belief the writer or speaker has about the topic.)

For example:

• An assertion is a declaration or expression of strong
belief towards a particular topic, often without evidence.
• It includes forceful or confident and positive statements
regarding a belief or a fact.

Example:
The Philippines is the hospitable country in the world.

A commonplace assertion is a statement used to


make a declaration or to express strong belief on a
particular topic, often without evidence.

BASIC ASSERTION
- It is a direct and simple statement of one’s feelings and
beliefs.
Example:

I wish I have started saving when I was younger.

EMPHATIC ASSERTION

- Expresses understanding to someone; typically has 2 parts:


recognition of one’s feeling or situation and expression of care
and support for his/her feelings and rights.
EMPHATIC ASSERTION

Example:

I understand that you are sad because you failed in


examination, but you have to move forward and prepare for
the next one.
TYPES OF ASSERTION
I - LANGUAGE ASSERTION

It uses “I” which is helpful in emphasizing one’s negative


feelings like anger and disappointments, and a solution is
suggested.
I - LANGUAGE ASSERTION

Example:

When I don’t exercise early in the morning, I feel


unmotivated and sluggish. So, I make sure that I incorporate
exercise in my everyday routine
