Intro to the Course

Mrs. Langan
Communication
⚫ Mrs. Langan’s cell is 770-380-7772. Put me in
your phone RIGHT NOW. Then text me with
just your first and last name (yes, trust me,
pause and do it right now before you forget).
⚫ Texting is the best way to reach me. I turn off
my phone when I am unavailable or in bed, so
you should feel free to text 24/7 and I will get
back to you as soon as I can. Because I will not be
putting all student numbers in my phone, please
tell me who you are when sending texts. Of
course, you are welcome to email me at
janelangan@gcpsk12.org, but I only check email
during the school day.
Due dates
⚫ All work for the week is due by midnight every
Thursday (technically, 11:59pm).
⚫ Unlike other classes, this class remains
asynchronous, meaning you do not have to be
online or on a zoom session at any particular
time. You simply need to make sure your work for
the week is submitted by 11:59pm on Thursdays.
⚫ Fridays will be used primarily for remediation
and to begin the work for the following week.
⚫ You are welcome to work ahead. A good rule of
thumb is this: if you can access it, you can do it.
Course Navigation
⚫ The landing page for the course includes important announcements and
should always be the first page you check once you have logged in to the
class.
⚫ You should then proceed to the course content.

⚫ You will then see a list of topics

on the left side of the screen.
This is where you will navigate
to current assignments and
support documents.
Assignments/Grades
⚫ You will always receive instructions on how/where to turn in
assignments for the course (assignments dropbox, discussion
forums, quizzes, etc.).
⚫ You should NOT email assignments to your teacher (you would be
surprised by how many emails come in daily and how easily things
can get get lost).
⚫ If you have any issues submitting assignments as requested, text
your teacher immediately.
⚫ Most assignments will be in the gradebook by Friday afternoon.
Major assignments, like essays, may take as much as two weeks.
⚫ This course follows GCPS grading protocol:
⚫ Mastery – 40%
⚫ Progress – 35%
⚫ CFA (Common Formative Assessments)– 5%
⚫ Finals – 20%
Grade requirements
⚫Maintain 70 or higher.
⚫If you fall below a 70, you may be asked to spend
time with me (in person, via Zoom, phone call, etc.)
remediating until your grade improves.
⚫Failure to attend remediation when your average
warrants it is considered AWOL.
⚫If you consistently struggle with any aspect of the
online course, you may be moved back into a
traditional class.
Late work
⚫ Life happens and I understand that, so I have the same
late work policy for all of my students. This way, you
don’t have to come up with a good excuse and I don’t
have to be the judge of whether something is a good
excuse or not.
⚫ All students will have one extra week to turn in work for
10 points off (whether it’s one day or six days late, it’s a
flat 10 points off ).
⚫ After I check in work on Friday, I will reopen dropboxes,
discussions, and quizzes for one additional week.
⚫ After the one-week grace period, any assignment not
made up will remain a zero.
⚫ NOTE: Late work will be graded AFTER I score in the
work that was submitted on time.
Let’s Get Started
⚫Assignments this week are super easy and just
meant to ensure that all students know how to
use eClass (content, assignments dropbox,
quizzes, discussions).
⚫Start by introducing yourself to the class in the
discussion entitled “Introduce Yourself.”
