Characteristics of
an Effective
Classroom
● The students ask the questions - good
questions.

● Questions are valued over answers.

● Ideas come from variety of sources

● A variety of instructional design methods

are used.

● Classroom learning “empties” into an

authentic community.
● Learning is personalized by variety of criteria.

● Assessment is persistent, authentic,

transparent and never punitive.

● Learning habits are constantly modified.

● There are constant opportunities for practice.

- Is the most basic functional
criterion that must be met in order
the students to learn.
 Task Completion
You can avoid many management
problems by setting up the classroom
appropriately for the specific tasks
students and teachers need to
accomplish.
 Social Contact
● Every room sends messages to
students about whether or not it’s
OK for them to communicate with
one another.
● It is important to make sure that the
message sent by your room matches
your desire level of student-to-
student interaction.
 Personal Expression
● Displaying student’s work and items
they found meaningful communicates
them that they are special and
important.
● Students are more likely to take care
of a classroom that they think of as
theirs.
 Pleasure
● Studies suggest that students learn the
best in attractive classrooms.
● Aesthetically, pleasing classrooms have
been shown positively influence
student’s behavior , including
attendance improvement and increasing
class participation.
 Growth (Intellectual Dev’t)
● Students are more likely to be engaged
if the find the classroom stimulating
and interesting.
● When engaged, they are learning rather
than disrupting.
TRADITIONAL VS. MODERN CLASSROOM

● Student’s main source is their
teacher, who they only
reached face-to-face.
● Involves a standard
curriculum delivered by a
teacher in-person.
MODERN CLASSROOM
● Helps the students to stay
engage and connected.
● Practical, low cost
straightforward approach
blended instruction that
other teachers can adopt
and customize with
relatively little expense or
administrative coordination.
