OBJECIVES:
a. define x- and y- intercepts correctly.
b. find the x- and y –intercepts of the
given linear equation.
c. graph at least 2 linear equation
accurately using the x- and y-intercepts.
What is INTERCEPT?
An intercept is where your line crosses
an axis. We have an x intercept and a y
intercept.
A.
To find x-intercept, 5x+3y=15. To find y-intercept,
Let y= 0 Let x= 0
5x+3y=15 5x+3y=15
5x+3(0)=15 5(0)+3y=15
= =
x =3 3y=15
y=5
Therefore, the x-intercept is 3
and the graph crosses the x-axis Therefore, the y-intercept is 5
at (3,0). and the graph crosses the y-axis at (0,5).
B.
Too find x-intercept, To find y-intercept,
Let y=0 Let x= 0
2x+3y=6 2x+3y=6
2x+3(0)=6 2(0)+3y=6
= =
x=3 y =2
Therefore, the x-intercept is 3
and the graph crosses the x-axisTherefore, the y-intercept is 2
at (3,0). and the graph crosses the y-axis at
(0,2).
The x-intercept is the abscissa of the point(x,0)
where the graph intersects the x-axis.

The y-intercept is the ordinate of the point(0,y)

where the graph intersects the y-axis
