 What is passive voice?
Kalimat pasif atau passive voice digunakan untuk menunjukkan ketertarikan pada
seseorang atau objek yang dikenai tindakan dan bukan seseorang atau objek yang
melakukan tindakan. Jadi, hal atau orang yang terpenting akan menjadi subjek
kalimat.

digunakan untuk menjelaskan beberapa hal, seperti ;
1. Menjelaskan dan menggambarkan proses
Contoh: After cocoa have been picked, they are washed and roasted.

2. Memberi penegasan pada berita sehingga terasa lebih objektif

Contoh: Several people were arrested. They will be held in custody overnight.

3. Memberi pengantar dalam kegiatan yang lebih akademik atau formal, seperti surat, laporan, esai, dan
perkuliahan.

Ciri-Ciri Passive Voice
passive voice memiliki ciri khasnya sendiri yang dapat membedakan dengan jenis
lainnya, seperti:
-Kalimat pasif Bahasa Inggris atau passive voice selalu mengandung to be dan verb3.
-Dalam passive voice biasa ditemukan kata by yang berfungsi untuk menjelaskan
pelaku atau subject.
-Dalam passive voice selalu ditemui object.
-Kata kerja atau verb pada passive voice merupakan jenis transitive verbs
Transitive verbs merupakan kata kerja yang membutuhkan object, seperti love,
change, pull, bring, make, dan lain-lain.

Active: Many tourists have visited that beach.
Passive: That beach has been visited by many tourists.
