PURPOSE / INTENTION
This lesson is about factorizing. This is an
important process that helps us understand
more about algebraic expressions which will
eventually assist in solving equations.
Factorizing enables us to rewrite polynomials
in a simpler and more useable form in which
to do other things.

PURPOSE / INTENTION
The lesson is about the manipulations of
polynomials to solve problems. Polynomials are often
called the ‘language’ of mathematics and algebra.
They are used in nearly every type of mathematics to
show numbers and expressions as a result of
different mathematical operations. The manipulation
of polynomials allows us to simplify mathematical
expressions to make them more useable to solve
problems.

LESSON ACTIVITY
Jose is planting a garden full of vegetables for the
summer. He wants to plant bitter gourds,
eggplants, lady’s fingers and sweet potatoes. He
has to have a field that is broken up into different
sections for each type of vegetable to be planted
as each vegetable has its own growing needs. He
is unsure how big a plot of land he will be able to
use. The plan of the field is shown below.

Q4.
PURPOSE / INTENTION
The lesson is about simplifying algebraic
fractions. An algebraic fraction is a fraction where the
numerator and/or the denominator are algebraic
expressions. If a problem involves solving an
expression that involves algebraic fractions, then it is
necessary to have the skills to be able to
manipulate and simplify these expressions.
