First Aid Basic Orientation - Disaster Risk Reduction and Management

On September 8, 2023, a crucial meeting took place focusing on the on going Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) trainings within
the various vicariates of the Diocese of San Carlos. The meeting aimed to provide updates, share insights and discuss the progress of community
and parish-based DRRM initiatives.
The meeting commenced with a warm welcome from our Social Action Director, Fr. Ricky R. Beboso, emphasizing the importance of collective
efforts in building resilient communities.
The Program Coordinator, Dexie Bagiuo presented updates on the DRRM training programs conducted and to be conducted in the respective
vicariates. The discussions highlighted the diversity of activities including workshops, drills, and awareness campaigns.
The Core Team openly discussed challenges faced during the implementation of the training programs, such as logistical issues and community
engagement. Success stories were also shared, underscoring the positive impact of increased preparedness.
Future plans for DRRM initiatives, including workshops, drills and community forums were outlined. Coordination among vicariates for joint events
was encouraged to maximized impact.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening community resilience through effective DRRM initiatives. The shared
experiences and collaborative spirit demonstrated during the meeting set the stage for continued success in building disaster-prepared
communities across the Diocese of San Carlos.

Training of Trainers and Establishment of Mission Station Social Action Center
(MSAC)/Parish Social Action Center (PSAC)
The objectives for the said training are the following: To equip participants with essential knowledge on disaster risk reduction principles. To develop training facilitation skills to
effectively convey information to community members. To foster a sense of responsibility and leadership among the participants to drive local disaster resilience efforts.
The training utilized a participatory approach, combining lectures, group discussions, and practical exercises. Sessions were designed to address specific aspects of disaster
risk reduction, including hazard identification, vulnerability assessment, and community-based response planning.
Participants explored into the various types of hazards, vulnerabilities, and risks prevalent in their communities. Practical exercises encouraged participants to identify local
hazards and assess their impact on the community. They collaboratively developed community-specific emergency response plans, emphasizing local resources and capacities.
Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of disaster risk reduction concepts and strategies. The approach successfully developed participants' ability to convey
information in an engaging and impactful manner. Trainers expressed increased enthusiasm and commitment to actively engage their communities in disaster preparedness
efforts.
The Community/Parish Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management proved instrumental in building a group of empowered trainers. As they return to their communities,
these individuals are poised to drive sustainable disaster resilience initiatives, fostering a safer and more prepared environment for all residents.
