Introduction
Social media has both positive and negative effects on students' learning and
academic performance. Negative effects include addiction, stress, and
psychological consequences. Students often procrastinate, resulting in poor
time management and academic performance. On the other hand, social media
can provide access to information, especially in remote or underprivileged
areas, and increase connectivity. It can also boost creative skills and enable
students to learn independently. This study aims to determine the impact of
social media on Grade 12 Computer System Servicing students' academic
performance and address addiction and communication skills.
Theoretical Framework
Mediational theory, proposed by Vygotsky, suggests that social media influences
individuals' behavior and thought processes. It suggests that adults and children
interact through shared activities, providing mental models for problem-solving.
This theory can help understand how social media impacts students' academic
performance. Teachers and mentors can help students use social media effectively,
while the culture of social media can either help or hinder their learning.
Vygotsky's theory suggests that social media acts as a mediator between learners
and their environment, shaping their perception of the world. This can lead to
unrealistic expectations and unrealistic expectations of themselves. Social media
can create a false sense of reality, leading to a change in self-perception and
school performance. This study aims to explore the effects of social media on

Social media can be helpful for learning because it lets students share
information and talk to their teachers and friends online. They can
work together on projects and learn new things.
But using social media too much can be bad for students. It can make
them feel worried and stressed, and they might not have enough time
to do their schoolwork. Also, using social media too much can make
them tired, make it hard for them to sleep, and make them unhealthy.
Using social media too much can be both good and bad for students.
Students need to use it at the right times and not let it affect their
health or school work in a bad way.
