TAKEN IN
CAPTIVITY

What does it mean to be in captivity? It means for some other power to
be in charge of your life. You cannot do as you please. God often places people
in captivity because of their turning away from God and looking to someone or
some other god to direct their lives. Captivity is a place of purging and bringing
us to our knees. Captivity reveals just how great it was to be free and looking to
God for our needs.

I used to think that captivity was awful, but when you take a closer look
you realize that captivity is the mercy of God. There are many ways that God
corrects his people. The sword, the famine and the tearing of the beast are three
ways He corrects. Those corrected by these three usually die. Those in captivity
have an opportunity to return to freedom one day. In Jeremiah, God says He led
them into captivity for their good.
Jer 24:5-7
Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge
them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place
into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.
For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this
land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not
pluck them up.
And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be
my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole
heart.
KJV

Do you see the heart of God toward His people whom He is leading into
captivity? It is His plan to bring them home after it is all over.

If you find yourself in some kind of captivity today, it is because God
has been merciful and spared your life. There are many reasons we may find
ourselves in captivity. The Bible clearly tells us that we suffer for the actions of
others. The iniquities of the fathers that hate God are carried to the third and
fourth generations. They are placed in the bosom of their children. It doesnt
make our children bad people. It makes our children bear the burden of our actions if we hate God. Dont make the mistake of thinking that all of the fathers
iniquities are pushed on to their children. It is just the fathers that hate God!
The beauty of this, is that to those who love God, the blessings go to thousands
of generations.

HOMECOMING
FOR SOME!

This month we have seen
much death among Gods people.

Mrs. Connie Martichuski
died July 11, 2015. She left daughters, Tonya and Kelly. Also and a son
Chad, plus grandchildren. She was
a one-of-a-kind person. She was responsible for bringing our daughterin-law to Christ and to church. We
will forever be grateful to her memory.

Bro. R. D. Wade, also went
home to be with the Lord in July. He
was in his 80s and will be remembered as a man of God who loved
missions and missionaries. Glorias
daddy served with Bro. Wade in the
Red River Valley Fellowship many
years ago. Bro. Wade had pastored
his church over 40 years and they
will miss him greatly. Please pray for
them as they adjust to change.

Galilean Baptist Church has
a member close to death also. She
is Mrs. Pernie Harrell and she has
prayed for every member of the
church every day until she became
bed fast. It is a great loss to any one
who loses a prayer warrior.

Our dear friend Bro. Wayne
Stoker died last week. Pray for his
wife Mary as she adjust to the change.
We were not notified but we heard
that Mrs. Dottie Rutter and Mrs.
Shirley Gillespie also went home to
be with the Lord in June of this year.

TAKEN IN
CAPTIVITY

Our love for our God will touch many generations of our loved ones. What a
promise!!!

Jer 29:4-7
4 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the
God of Israel, unto all that are carried
away captives, whom I have caused to
be carried away from Jerusalem unto
Babylon;
5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them;
and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of
them;

Another reason we find ourselves in captivity is because of the sins of
our country. America is walking on dangerous ground today. She has said she
doesnt want God in our schools, although our schools are teaching the god of

evolution and the gods of other countries. The Koran is being studied in our daughters; and take wives for your sons,

penalties of our actions, but they will catch up with us. God said, Thou shalt not

diseases. America has departed and turned her back on God. Dont be surprised
for in the peace thereof shall ye have

peace.

I often think of Corrie Ten Boon and what she suffered because of the
leaders of her country. Not everyone lives through captivity. Her sister Betsy
died in that concentration camp, but she died in victory. Her faith had only gotten
stronger. Corrie was able to come out and encourage all of us that God will take
care of us regardless of where we are.

Back in 1988, Gloria was working Bro. Roloffs book table during a conference of 6,000 preachers. Bro. Richard Wurmbrand was working his table next
to her. They were able to spend quite a bit of time talking between sessions. Bro.
Richard was a Lutheran preacher who had spent many years in prison for his faith.
Bro. Wurmbrand told her he had gone to those in charge of the conference and
asked if they would give five minutes to pray for our Christian brothers and sisters
around the world who had been imprisoned for their faith. The conference told
him that they didnt have five minutes. They had a full schedule! Bro. Richard
said to Gloria. When we were in prison, we thought we were in the tribulation
and we thought Christians all over the world were being jailed. We prayed for
you. As we suffered, we prayed, thinking you were suffering. Your country has
been blessed but they dont have five minutes to pray for the body of Christ who
are suffering today. We may not be suffering today, but we had better not forget
about those who are. What about those 40,000 refugees on the mountain in Iraq.
They are there because of their faith. If we want mercy in the day of our trouble,
we had better be merciful to those who are there today.

What if we do find ourself in some form of captivity today? What are
we supposed to do while there? Most peoples attitude is to wait until their ship
comes in to get busy doing what they are supposed to do. But that is not what
God told Israel when they went into captivity. I heard a saying last night that said,
Dont wait for your ship to come in; swim to it! God gave instructions to the
Jews and told them just exactly what to do while living in captivity. We have a lot
of church members who have stepped into sin and feel they have no right to serve
Gods church anymore. They are so wrong. Confess your sins, without justification, then leave your sin and accept your punishment.

KJV

God does not allow us to go
into captivity to be destroyed. He
wants us to prosper wherever we are.
He wants us to continue the daily living
He has given us to live. Think of Daniel. Daniel served the kings of Babylon
just like he would have served Israels
kings. Daniel had great honor in the
kingdom who had taken him captive.
Think of Esther and Mordecai-captives
that ended up running the country.

The article on the next page
will explain the attitude we should live
in while walking through our troubles.
Remember, God is our life, not our situation. Situations change from day to
day, but GOD NEVER CHANGES!

-------Jerry Brewster

SUCCESS is a ladder.
It cannot be climbed
with your hands in
your pocket.

Oh that I were as in months past.

Job 29:2
(Taken from Spurgeons daily reading)

Numbers of Christians can view the past with pleasure, but regard the
present with dissatisfaction; they look back upon the days which they have passed
in communing with the Lord as being the sweetest and the best they have ever
known, but as to the present, it is clad in a sable garb of gloom and dreariness.
Once they lived near to Jesus, but now they feel that they have wandered from
Him, and they say, O that I were as in months past! They complain that they
have lost their evidences, or that they have not present peace of mind, or that they
have no enjoyment in the means of grace, or that conscience is not so tender, or
that they have not so much zeal for Gods glory. The causes of this mournful state
of things are manifold. It may arise through a comparative neglect of prayer, for a
neglected closet is the beginning of all spiritual decline. Or it may be the result of
idolatry. The heart has been occupied with something else, more than with God;
the affections have been set on the things of earth, instead of the things of heaven.
A jealous God will not be content with a divided heart; He must be loved first
and best. He will withdraw the sunshine of His presence from a cold, wandering
heart. Or the cause may be found in self-confidence and self-righteousness. Pride
is busy in the heart, and self is exalted instead of lying low at the foot of the cross.
Christian, if you are not now as you were in months past, do not rest satisfied
with wishing for a return of former happiness, but go at once to seek your Master,
and tell Him your sad state. Ask His grace and strength to help you to walk more
closely with Him; humble yourself before Him, and He will lift you up, and give
you yet again to enjoy the light of His countenance. Do not sit down to sigh and
lament while the beloved Physician lives there is hope, nay there is a certainty of
recovery for the worst cases.
A TRIBUTE TO STEWART, MY BIG BROTHER
By Virginia Tung
(Virginia and her husband are members of Galilean Baptist Church. They
have great testimonies)

Big brothers are special people, endowed by God with unique gifts. I
can remember how my dad and five of our uncles often talked about their oldest
brother, our Big Uncle, with great admiration, respect and affection. At first I
didnt understand but I soon found out why. Big Uncle was indeed an extraordinary brother with an unusually big heart. But as my dad was blessed with having
such a big brother, so I too was blessed with my own big brother, Stewart.

He was my B-I-G brother because he brightened (B) the path of others,
invented (I) ways to make others lives more profitable and meaningful, and gave
(G) generously of himself and his possessions to make others happy. The following are three of many examples of how my big brother has touched my life and the
lives of others.

During World War II, we had no school to attend in Japanese-occupied
Hong Kong. Times were hard because food was scarce and our resources were
very limited. One day we found our brother, who was then still in his teens, busy
hammering on empty tin cans of various sizes. At the end of the day, we were
surprised when he presented us with his finished product: a nice set of toy pots and
pans complete with lids and handles for me and my sister, Helen, to play with.

His ingenious gift not only brightened

our days but also made the war-impoverished years more bearable.

He was a born leader. After
the war with the help of his high school
buddies, he started a night school for illiterate people. He taught them how to
read and write and introduced them to
Bible stories, memory verses, and joyful songs. One of his students was our
maid-servant, who was not only eager
to learn but also thrilled to be able to
go to school. His innovations helped
many lead more profitable lives.

When Mainland China was
taken over by the Communists, our dad
lost everything, including our home,
his business and investments. He had
to start all over again from scratch in
Hong Kong. Consequently, my big
brother had to work his way through
college and medical school here in the
U.S. However, he spent his first paycheck on Christmas presents for his
family in Hong Kong. He gave me and
Helen each a vanity set of a comb, a
hair brush and a mirror. I will cherish
the memory of his generosity as long
as I live.

Above all, he was my BIG
brother because he BELIEVED IN
GOD and practiced his Christian faith
all of his life.

INSPIRATIONS
THE SAME BOILING WATER THAT SOFTENS THE POTATO HARDENS THE EGG.
ITS NOT ABOUT THE CIRCUMSTANCES,
BUT RATHER WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF!

It is so easy for us to focus on our troubles, but when we focus on the
goodness of God our troubles seem so little in comparison. If we are made of
the Word of God, troubles will soften us, not make us hard hearted.

Today, I find myself in a strange mood. Words wont really describe my
mood, but the best way I can describe it is that I seem to be sitting back and seeing
my whole life that has gone behind me. It seems so short. Am I really 71 years
old? Well, a quick look in the mirror says, Yes, you are! But I still am that
little girl that had such big dreams. I remember not having the answers to BIG
questions in my youth and then I remember what a joy it was to find answers as
I sought to learn from Gods Word. I ask people often if they know for sure they
are going to heaven when they die. Often I hear, I sure hope so. I remember
when my faith was hope only and then I read Gods Word and I KNEW so!
What a difference that knowledge has made in my life. Now my hope is with great
strength.

What have you done with your life and what are you doing with it today?
Your life is your gift from God. When a child is born, God does not always say
Live. Sometimes He takes that child home to Himself. If you are alive today,
then God said to you at birth, live. What time of your life have you given to
learning about the God that you say you have entrusted your life to? To know
Him is to love! The less you know about Him, the less you will feel strongly toward your relationship with Him. His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways
are not our ways and the only way we can know and understand Him is to seek to
know His heart. When I lay my head on my husbands bosom I can feel and hear
his heart beating. We need to be that close to God!

As I look back, the first thing I am seeing is the relationship I have had
with my God. I am so thankful that I felt so insecure without knowing God. That
insecurity caused me to run to God and now I live a very secure life. The second
thing I having been looking at is my relationship in my marriage. My marriage is
the hardest thing I have had to do in my life. Not because my marriage was a bad
marriage, but my marriage revealed all of my weaknesses. My marriage pushed
against me and forced me to either run from who I was or to acknowledge who I
was and let God conform me to His image. My marriage revealed my ugliness
and I had thought I was so good! I was shocked at what God showed me about
my life through my marriage. I thought when my troubles began that Jerry was

the problem. Jerry had his problems,

but my problem was the way I was responding to our troubles. My response
was always destructive. Gods way always prospered our lives. I could have
easily told myself that I had just gotten into a bad marriage and I needed to
leave and start over, but Gods Word
stopped me and God began in love to
remake this little girl. How can I ever
thank God for loving me that much.

The knowledge I learned by
standing still and letting God instruct
my life was the knowledge that I taught
my children as I was raising them. The
third thing I have been looking at is the
upbringing of my children.

I was 17 years old when I
birthed my first son. My mother stayed
with me one day and night and as she
drove away I sat on the front porch holding my son and saying, Son, if your life
depends on me, you are in big trouble.
How was I going to know how to meet
his needs? I was overwhelmed to say
the least, but I believed that God held
me responsible for the care of my son
and I held him close to me to be sure he
would be alright. I could never have
left him to a babysitter hour after hour.
I couldnt lay that responsibility down.
He was 2 years old before Jerry and I
went anywhere without him. I had always said I wanted four children and I
wanted them to be two years apart. Our
second son was two years and a week
and a half later. Because of health reasons I had decided two children would
do. I didnt struggle with having children and it was awhile before I understood that God was in control of birth
and not us. For you who have struggled with birth I would say to you that
birthing your own children is not where
you find life, but investing yourself in
children is where you find joy of life.
You dont have to birth them to mother
them! When our boys were 9 and 7
God brought our foster daughters into
our lives and our home. While raising
our children we also helped about 29

We had the privilege of being with Pastor Brannon
and Mrs. Bonnie last month on a Sunday morning. They
allowed us to introduce the ministries of Wonderful Word
Publishers, Tid Bits of Wisdom and Bro. Larry and Mrs.
Judys ministry Bread of Life Baptist Press.

This is Mrs. Connie Ciminos home church and we
were excited about meeting her pastor and church family.
We found them to be a solid Independent Baptist Church
with God honoring music. Their spirit was one of love and
kindness and showed the character of Christ.

We happened to be there on the pastors birthday. After church they invited us to come to their home
for lunch. We tried to decline, thinking they needed their
time for his birthday, but they insisted. When we arrived
at their home there were 14 of us for lunch. We learned
that this was Mrs. Bonnies ministry. Every Sunday she
cooks for friends, family and visitors. It was a wonderful lunch and fellowship. It reminded me of Mrs. John R.
Rice. Grace McMillian (oldest daughter) told me how her
mother had the girls to put out the best china on Sunday
and they would bring their visitors home for lunch. Hospitality is often neglected today. Sweet fellowship, around
good food, makes good memories.

On that Sunday night, we were invited to present our works at Pastor Wayne Wyatts church in Newport, Tennessee. This was very special to us because
one of our former members is his wifes grandmother
and some years ago she had moved there to be with
her family. She was Glorias visitation partner and
they loved serving the Lord together for many years.
She has been a supporter of Tid Bits from the very
beginning.

The church broadcasts their services over the
internet radio, so our work got to go out to others also.
The people were very loving and warm-hearted. Their
piano player has the touch of God upon her music and
it blessed our hearts. They are another church that
this generation has not moved away from the heart of
the Lord. It is so refreshing to meet other believers
with like hearted spirits.

After church we met at Wendys and had a wonderful time of fellowship. Both churches that day were
very generous to us and the work and we thank God for
their generous spirits to the work of others. We have
watched God use and bless Bro. Wayne and his wife
for many years and rejoice in Gods work in their lives.

Glorias Article

children and their parents come together in their homes. We didnt do this because we were super parents, because we werent. We had found the answers in
the Word of God and we just shared with others what we had learned. I can tell
you the secret to raising children if you would like. ALWAYS respond in true
love of God and all troubles will be resolved.

Little did we know that twenty years after birthing our first son God would
ask us to have another son. It came as a great shock to me that God would ask me
to raise another son after having given my life to so many children through the
years. I spent hours daily talking mothers through hard places with their children.
I thought that was enough, but God said, I want you to have another child. I had
just reached a place of freedom. All my children were well on their way to living
their own lives and now I could rest!!! It didnt make good sense to have another
child, but as God said in His Word, My thoughts are not your thoughts and my
way is not your way. Today, I couldnt image my life without my last son. I
thought, because I had such great experience with children that this was going to
be the easiest thing I had ever done. WRONG! I ate a whole library of books.
Nothing I had done before would work on this child. He was his own person and
I had to learn another method. I didnt know what God want to do with his life,
but I knew that it was important to God that he live!

Did we have troubles raising our children? OH, YES! There were many
days that I felt like a complete failure. How many times did I question, Have I
done the right thing for these children? My sons had times of testing because
of us taking in other children. Circumstances determine what kind of testing you
go through, but the truth is it is not the kind of testing we endure, it is the way we
respond to those testing that determine the out come. I was a preachers kid and
many a preachers kid have gone to the devil because of the testing they endured.
But it wasnt the testing that took them to the devil, it was their responses to those
tests. Our life doesnt determine who we become. The way we respond to our
life determines our outcome. When we stand before, God there will be no one to
blame but ourselves.

What is it like to look back over your life? The first thing I see is the work
of God in my life. Why does He care so much for us that He constantly is there
instructing us and leading us into His way? Why does He care so much about the
little things in our lives? I have a hard time walking and I cannot tell you how
many times I have prayed about parking and God puts me in the best place. I
have been full and I have been empty. I have been at rest and I have been in great
troubles, but when it was passed I could always see the hand of God at work in
my life.

Our children are just plain, everyday children. What makes my children
great to me is that I see Gods hand upon their lives. God is working in my children and my grandchildrens (also, great grandchildren) lives. He is using my
childrens lives in unique ways and that was my hearts desire from the very first
time I birthed my son. Early in my life I found these verses,
Ps 37:4-5
4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

He has kept His Word to me! I was doing what I thought God wanted me to
do when I found these verses, but I was
not DELIGHTING in it. My spirit was
striving with God because I wanted to
do it my way. When I stopped pulling
against the reins and began delighting
in the way of God, then He began bringing my hearts desires to pass. What a
mighty God we serve!

Pslams 37:4-5 is Gods commitment to me. There is another verse
that God put in my life a few years later
and it also has been my commitment to
God.
2 Chron 16:9
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro
throughout the whole earth, to shew
himself strong in the behalf of them
whose heart is perfect toward him.......
KJV

I strive daily to keep my heart right
with God, so if He should look my way and
desire to use my life I will be ready.

Where are you in life today?

If you are young you have all your life
before you. Seek to walk it Gods way
with Gods Spirit. If you are in your
latter days, do not grieve over past
neglects but make today count for the
Lord Jesus Christ. Be grateful for His
goodness. The troubles will pass but
His goodness will endure for ever.

What a treasure it is to follow
Christ. He will take you places you

old age He will not forsake me!!!

TID BITS MONTHLY

REPORT

Hot, Hot, Hot! We are in the month where you can fry eggs on the concrete in Texas. But this too shall pass. There
is always change and thats a good thing. Life would really be rough if it were the very same every day. Our character
should be like Gods. He changes not. But, our circumstances need variety so we can keep our sanity. Variety we have!

We dont know how long God will keep us in the place we are in, but as long as He provides we will be fine. In
June we sat out to go to Cowboy Camp with Mrs. Lucy Havens. When we got to Glenrose, Texas, our car began missing
something terrible. We couldnt find anyone in that town to help, so we drove back to Cedar Hill and left our car with the
mechanic and picked up the truck and started back. We enjoyed seeing the camp. We had tried to go for years. Finally we
made it. When we returned, we found out that the motor had to be rebuilt, so we brought the car home and I began to try
and fix it. I had not worked on cars since the computers came out. It was going to cost close to $1,000 and we just didnt
have it. We had some money that God had sent in, but it wasnt anywhere near what we needed. I worked on it for almost
a week and then realized I wasnt going to get it running. That day I received a call from a young man, whom I had not seen
for a long time, and he needed counsel. I had him to come to my office in the shop and when he was leaving he asked what
was wrong with the car. He had a friend who worked on cars at home and he said he was going to fix our car. I reasoned
with him that it was too much, but he wouldnt have it any other way. He said, You have been there for me and my family.
You led my children to the Lord and its my time to serve you. It took over a month to get the car running and just when
Gloria got it back, the timing was off and it had to be two more days in the shop. Two days after we got it back the fuel
pump went out. The little money we had left paid for the fuel pump. Then the car was only getting 11 miles to the gallon
and back to the shop it went. Just when we got the car going, our house air conditioner went out (108 degrees). That was
$250. All total we had $1900 in expenses for the month of July. Everything was covered and paid, for but we are not sure
how that happened! God never said things would not go wrong. He said He would be there when they did!

Each month, when we are not sure where to turn, God puts it on the heart of someone to share with us. Every time
we receive a gift, our first thought is, God touched someones heart for us and they obeyed His prompting. I dont know
how long God will work in this way, but words can never express our appreciation to the saints that God is using to bless
our life. Some of the ones who share the most, live the same way we are living. They are sharing what they prayed in!!
Thats humbling! My health is not going to let me work a regular job so we need wisdom to do the things we know how
to do and the things we do have the ability to do.

Last month we were able to meet with everyone involved in the work. We had not had a meeting for two years
because we are in different states. God gave us a great time of fellowship and seeking God concerning our work. We did
not get to meet with the two missionaries that give out so many of our tracts but we prayed for them and thank God for their
help in this work.
