DEFINATION OF RECTANGLE

Rectangle is a quadrilateral where opposites sides are equal and parallel

and each angle=90.

Q1 WHAT IS AREA?

Ans: The area of a figure constitutes the amount of two-dimensional

space that the figure occupies. The ancient Egyptians developed rules
for determining the areas of rectangles, triangles, trapezoids, and circles.

Area of rectangle= L x B

L= Length

B=Breadth

For example : - Find the area of rectangle whose length is 5cm and
breadth is 3 cm .
5 Cm
3 Cm

Area=Length x Breadth

Area= 5 x 3 = 15cm

Length of rectangle

= Area of rec./ breadth of rec.

A
L = --------------
B

Breadth of rectangle

=Area of rect. / length of rect.

A
B= _________

L
Q1. What is perimeter?

Ans-The length of boundary of a simple closed curve is called its

perimeter.

Perimeter of rectangle

L
B

B
L

L=length

B=Breadth

Perimeter of rectangle= L + B + L +B

= 2 L+ 2 B

= 2 (L + B)
OR

Perimeter of Rectangle= 2 x (L + B)

For example: The length and the breadth of a rectangle are 12 cm and
8 cm respectively. Find its perimeter.

8cm

12 Cm

Perimeter = 2 x (length + breadth)

= 2 x (12cm + 8 cm)
= 2 x 20 cm
= 40 cm
OR
Perimeter = L + B + L+ B
= 2 L+ 2 B
= 2 (L + B)
= 2(12 + 8)
= 2 (20)
= 40 CM
