KASONE “BANYAN TREE WATERING” FESTIVAL INVITATION
2598 years ago in 588 B.C., on a full moon day in “Kasone” (month), Maha Era 103, Lord Buddha
attained enlightenment under a sacred “Bodhi” Banyan tree.
Ven. Mt. Tantkyi Sayadaw brought a pedigree seedling from this sacred Bodhi tree and had planted it
here in Azusa for devotees. While honoring Lord Buddha, we will conduct a watering ceremony on this
Banyan tree as part of the Kasone festival.
Kasone full moon day not only marks the day Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, but also it marks the
day He was born and the day He passed away to Nirvana. Thus, sages had designated this day as
“Buddha”day
Dhamma friends will collectively entertain guests with food. Devotees desiring beneficial results may
offer flowers, candles and pour water on the Bodhi tree. They may also pay homage to the statues’ of the
Buddha’s Seven Holy Spots, and four places dedicated to apprehension of the nature of impermanance.
With Metta, all dhamma friends are cordially invited to come and pay homage to the Lord Buddha, the
noblest of the Triple Gems.
