Ljubia Zdravkovi, LL. D.
Police Department in Ni
Ministry of Internal Affairs, Republic of Serbia
DNA Analysis and its Application in Law-Enforcement Practice
Summary
The DNA analysis is the most up-to-date method for the identification of perpetrators of serious criminal offences which has a wide application worldwide.
Unfortunately, this method has been insufficiently applied in our country given the
fact that the national legislation on this issue is still inadequate and incomplete.
There is a need for a more comprehensive legislation which would clearly and more
specifically regulate this area which is important from the aspect of both substantive
and procedural criminal law as well as from the aspect of criminalistics (criminal
investigation). In this article, the author provides an example from the practice of the
Criminal Police Department in Ni, where the DNA analysis has been used to cast
more light on a number of armed robbery cases in Southern Serbia.
Key words: DNA analysis, criminal identification, criminal acts, criminal
investigation practice, murder, robbery, legislation.
