D. Presentation

Class, as a review, what is

a sentence?
Yes, Eiron?
A sentence is group of
words that has a complete
meaning. It starts with a
capital letter.
Youre right, Eiron. Our
lesson for today is all about
the different kinds of
sentences. I have here four
sentences and I need four
volunteers to read this with
emotions or feelings and
tell us if what kind of
sentences are they.

(Post activity on the board)

Who would like to answer

no. 1?
Yes, Bernadette?
1. It is 11:45.

Declarative Sentence.
No. 2, Paul.
2. What time is it?

Interrogative Sentence.
No. 3, Joanna.
3. Lets go to the
movie.

Imperative Sentence.
No. 4, Yanica.
4. Oh, my gosh, I'm
late!

Exclamatory Sentence.

E. Skill Focus (Discussion)

Class, these are sentences,

right? But sentences are
classified according to its
use. Bernadette, why you
answered declarative
sentence for sentence no.
1?
Maam, one thing I
remembered, if a sentence
is in declarative form, it
ends with a period.
Yes, you have a point. For
sentence no. 2, is it really
an interrogative sentence?
(Paul)

Yes, maam! An
interrogative sentence is a
question and ends in a
question mark.
Exactly. Who answered
sentence no. 3?
(Joanna)

Maam, sentence no. 3 is a

command sentence.
A command sentence?
Yes, it expresses the
concept of command or re
request but it is not a
command sentence. We
will find out later. Next, who
answered no.4?
(Yanica)

Maam, sentence no. 4 is

an exclamatory sentence
because it ends with an
exclamation point.
Yes, you are right, Yanica.
Sentences are classified
according to their uses.
They are four kinds or
types. And the first kind of a
sentence is what we called
declarative sentence.

(Post the related visual aids

in the board)

A declarative sentence
declares a fact or an
opinion and ends with a
period.

For example,
1. Bob arrived early at
the airport.
2. The lecture was very
helpful.

Who could give me a

declarative sentence based
from the Food Game?
Yes, Jane?
Hes been staying here for
six months now.
Yes, thats right. Lets
proceed to the second type
of a sentence which is the
interrogative sentence.
What is an interrogative
sentence? Please read,
Jeron.
An interrogative sentence is
used for asking a question
and ends with a question
mark.
For example,
1. Will the field trip
push through?
2. Did Eric and Arlene
make it on time?

Based from the Food

Game, give me a sentence
that asks a question.
Yes, Francis?
Why do you spy still?
Okay. The third type of a
sentence is the imperative
sentence. Used for making
a demand or a request, this
sentence usually ends with
a period. However, if the
sentence conveys a strong
emotion or passion, an
exclamation point is used.
(This sentence is also
exclamatory.)

1. Try to come to
school early.
2. Please, bring this to
the manager.
3. Get your feet off the
grass!

Give me an example of
imperative sentence from
the Food Game.
Yes, Yuan?
Sue, please go away.
Very good! Is it clear?
Yes, maam.
The last type of a sentence
is what we called
exclamatory sentence.

This suggests a strong

emotion or passion and can
be any of the kinds of
sentences that were
mentioned. An exclamation
point is used in an
exclamatory sentence.

For example,
1. It was morning when
you left! (declarative)
2. Youre leaving now?!
(interrogative)
3. Stop that!
(imperative)

Give me an example, class.

Yes, Princess.
Ouch, it hurts!
Very good! So, questions?
Are these clear to you? So,
those were the different
kinds of sentences
according to their uses.

F. Skill Exercises (Application)

Lets have a Role Play. I

will group you into four and
you should act a scene that
shows emotions using the
different kinds of
sentences. I will give you 1
minute to discuss. Okay!
Lets start!
(After 1 minute, the
students will now proceed
to the presentation of every
group)
Good job, class!
G. Generalization

For our generalization, what

is a declarative sentence?
(Students raise their hands)
Yes, Julia?
A declarative sentence is
used to make a statement
of fact and ends with a
period.
Very good!
How about interrogative
sentence? Yes, Gab?
An interrogative sentence is
used to ask a question and
ends with a question mark.
Exactly! What is the
difference of imperative and
exclamatory sentence?
Yes, Sofia?
An imperative sentence is
used to state a command or
request while exclamatory
sentence is used to express
strong feeling and ends
with an exclamation point.
Very well said. Is it clear
class?
Yes maam!
