1 Grade Lesson Plan: Week 2

Created by: Dani Houghtaling and Erin Waddell

Date: School:

st
Grade Level: 1 grade Content Area: Get to know you (intro, name games), Why
the language, greetings and introductions

Lesson Objectives: SWBAT ask each other how they are doing in French

Introductory Activities (including time estimates):

Review last weeks lesson by asking who remembers how to say the different terms. Then have a few students
raise their hands to introduce themselves to the class using their French names. Then, we can point to different
students and ask someone else to introduce them in their French names. The student being introduced can say
their French name or hold up their name card so that the other student can introduce them correctly. (5 min.)

Instructional Activities (including time estimates):

- Go through the next section of vocabulary (a va?; Oui; Non; a va) by teaching the pronunciation and
getting the students to repeat the words a few times. (5 min.)

- Introduce activity: one student (student 1) will look away while another student (student 2) is selected. Then
the student 1 tries to find student 2. This is done by student 1 asking a va? to all of the students walking
around the room. Everyone will answer a va mal or a va comme-ci comme a. Student 1s job is to find the
person who answers a va bien. The other students job is to act suspicious to make student 1 believe they
student 2. (10 min)

-Students return to their seats and get with a partner. They will practice a dialogue using what they learned last
week and this week. Then a few groups can present their dialogues to the class. (5 min)

***If there is extra time and the students seem to understand the whole lesson, we can teach how to say
Whats your name? (Comment tappelles-tu?). Otherwise, we can use the extra time to practice the
vocabulary some more with introductions.

Closing Activities (including time estimates):

-Introduce the question box: we will bring a box to class each week and the students can write questions they
have about French in it. They can put slips of paper in whenever they find free time during an activity. Then,
whenever we have time at the end of class, we can draw out a few and answer them. The questions can be
about vocabulary, culture, etc. and we will try our best to answer them for the class. If the students ever have
questions at home throughout the week, they can also write these down and put them in the box when we
come to class. (5 min)
Instructional Materials: Homework:

-extra nametags in case students were absent the none

class before and did not get one

-extra vocab lists

-box for questions

-small pieces of paper for questions
