1. Goal: To practice so, mi, la, do; present re; practice ta, ti ti and quarter rest; present half
note

2. Objectives: SWBAT
 ID/read/perform ta, ti ti, quarter rest, and half notes in songs and patterns
 ID notes as being d, r, m, s, or l
 Perform a composition using ta, ti ti, and quarter rest
 Sing a song in harmony
 Play instruments with correct technique

3. Materials: triangle; barred instruments?

2. Let Us Chase the Squirrel


 Sing and teach game as a warm-up!

3. Deta, Deta
 Sing whole song as a class
 T. explains that there is a new sound in this song!
o Ask students to find the empty “stair” that they hear
o ID this sound as re! T. shows hand sign for re
 Echo phrases with hand signs
 Students will sing song while T. sings harmony
 Switch! Students will sing harmony and T. sings song
 Show song on Smart Board – explain that the harmony is singing
half notes, which are rhythms that last for two beats
 Select students to play triangle part on quarter rests and students
to play barred instruments for harmony. Remaining students will
sing melody
o Switch, as many times as class time allows!
