ther Tongue Based-Multilingual Education

The English Language has been a big part in history since the American regime. Americans
introduced education and English has been a part of the classroom experience since then. But
considering the many different cultural minorities and languages we have nationwide, it has been
a proposal by the educators to use the child’s first language and have a basic experience with it
that would provide them a firm foundation for an education in Filipino and English which are the
two major languages of education in the Philippines.

The use of the mother tongue language can attract the pupils to listen to the discussion,
especially orally, for most young school children can’t understand and comprehend the foreign
or English language used for teaching at their young age. Because the percentage in our
population of pupils who are using the English Language as their form of conversation is
minimal, teachers need to use the native tongue first as a medium of instruction among younger
learners.

It is vital that children begin their education in a language they understand. In the video
presentation we watched during the BEC class, studies were conducted in different countries in
Asia and showed that the use of mother tongue as medium of instruction is the most effective
tool to use in order to reach the maximum learning competencies of the pupils. The main purpose
of Mother Tongue Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) is that children must be able to
speak local languages before learning a foreign language so that learning can be simple, easier,
and effective. It is believed that children learn better if they understand the language the teacher
is using in the class for they can learn better in this way, so I agree to educators who are on the
side of MTB-MLE.

topic Education For All or EFA:

Education is a fundamental human right. It is the key to sustainable development and peace and
stability within and among countries, and thus an indispensable means for effective participation
in the societies and economies of the twenty-first century, which are affected by rapid
globalization. Achieving EFA goals should be postponed no longer. The basic learning needs of
all can and must be met as a matter of urgency.

Education makes people easy to lead, simple to govern but impossible to enslave! So goes the
saying…People earn their education through the Essentialist and Progressive School. I have

curriculum depending on the availability of the learners. The country implements this national
curriculum. This can be made relevant to the specific needs of the learners. The department of

Essentialism VS. Progressivism....Kristina R. Lumictin

Essentialism and progressivism have few similarities and many more differences Essentialism is
structured, focused on accountability and meeting standards. Progressivism is child-centered,
encourages active learning, and realizes that education is not just a preparation for life. While
both of these education theories seem to be completely opposite, they have a few similarities.
Both of these theories want the children to succeed, they are just going in different ways to
accomplish this.

Mother Tongue –Based Education ... by Mel Palima

The use of mother tongue as the language of learning and instruction is an innovative approach
by the Department of Education. In this process, students will develop a strong foundation of
learning, be it in oral or written form. As per observation, learners nowadays find it hard to
express ideas direct in English language. Most of them have prior knowledge but could hardly
express considering the grammatical aspects of it.
