Report on Early Language, Literacy and Numeracy (ELLN) - SLAC


While pupils undergo different stages of development, teachers also need professional development to be more
effective in dealing with the pupils in the classroom.

By giving the right programs for teacher professional development can be an effective way to teachers in achieving the
quality education for learners.
The School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) is implemented by the (DepEd) to develop and support successful teachers by
nurturing their knowledge, attitudes and competencies in the work stations. This is why Jesus Lumain Elementary School
has recently conducted SLAC for Developmentally Appropriate Practices on Early Language, Literacy and Numeracy
(ELLN) which was learned from a seminar- workshop by the school head, Ms. Grace M. Sorrosa and a Grade 1 teacher,
Mrs. Nenita E. Libaton held at Davao City last January 18-24, 2017.

The first week of SLAC Sessions was conducted last February 23-24, 2017. The first session was started at 3:00 p.m. with
a prayer by Aireen C. Marquez followed by the singing of the national anthem through audio- visual presentation. Ms.
Grace M. Sorrosa encouraged the teachers to actively participate the SLAC sessions for them to be equipped of the new
trend of the teaching strategies to be applied inside the classroom.

The facilitator, discussed for the first week sessions, the session guide 1 of the Principles of Child Growth and
Development. The teachers were able to familiarize the different principles of child development. The session ended at
4:30 p.m.

February 23-24, 2017, the second week of the SLAC sessions was started at 3:00 p.m. The teachers were divided into
two groups for the activity. The discussed topic was “How do children grow, develop and learn? (7K Para sa Bata)
wherein teachers learned the 7ks para sa bata by filling – up the pyramid boxes using the word cards. The sessions
ended at 4:00 p.m.

March 2-3, 2017, the third week of the SLAC sessions was started at 3:00 p.m. The discussed topic was “Thinking Skills:
Foundations of Literacy Learning” teachers were just watching videos of different language games. The sessions ended
at 4:00 p.m.

March 9-10, 2017, the fourth and last week for the S.Y. 2017-2018 of the SLAC sessions for DAP on ELLN started at 3:00
p.m. The discussed topic was” Emerging Literacy Games and Activities” and the teachers continued watching the videos
of the different guided games. The session ended at 4:00 p.m.

The continuation of the SLAC for the remaining session guides will be on the next school year 2017-2018 following the
same format and time.
