Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

I. Objectives
a) Understand the key concepts of absolute value of a number.
b) Define absolute value..
c) Find the absolute value of the given number.

II. Learning tasks

a) Subject Matter: The Absolute Value of a Number
i. Concept Ideas: The absolute value of a number is the distance of any number
from zero.
ii. Process Skills: analysis,computation
iii. Value Focus: Self reflection
b) Reference
Mathematics 8- Learner’s Module (pp. 69-74)
c) Materials
Laptop ,LED TV, visual aids, cartolina, cut outs, chalk and board

III. Developmental Activities

a) Pre-Activity
i. Review
1. What is an integer?
2. Give some examples of integers.

ii. Motivation

Refering to the line posted on the board, the students must label the line given the
numbers in increasing/ascending order from left to right.
Ask the ff.questions:
1. What do you call this line with a number labeled to it?
2. What is the center of the number line?
3. How many unit does these following numbers away from the
center/zero? 1,-1, 5,-6,4,-4.

iii. Presentation

Our lesson is pretty the same with what we did earlier. Its called the Absolute
Value. When we talk about Absolute Value, it is just getting the distance of an
integer from zero. Let’s watch this video to know more about The Absolute Value
of a Number.

b) Activity Proper

i. Activity

Present a video clip to the class.

ii. Analysis
1. Based on the video clip that was being presented a while ago. How can
we get the absolute value of a number?
2. What is the notation that we are using to represent an Absolute Value?
3. What we measuring here?
4. What have you noticed to the absolute value of a numbers which are the
same but opposite in sign?
5. Why is it that all of our answers are positive? What do we mean by
getting the absolute value or distance of a number? Why not a negative
answer?

iii. Abstraction
1. What is absolute value?
2. How can we solve or find the absolute of a number?
3. What are we measuring in getting the absolute value of a number?

iv. Valuing
1. In our number line we have that what we called the center which is 0.
Now, can I ask you 9if who is the center of your life?

v. Application
Find the Absolute Value of the following given.
1. I-2I 7. I6+4I
2. I8I 8. I13-15I
3. I-8I 9. I20I - I-11I
4. I-13.5I 10. -I13+16I
5. I121I
6. I9-8I
