STANDARD PRACTICES MANUAL (PN 585005)
X−RAY INSPECTION − SPOP−92
Task 70−37−01−260−001:
1. SPOP 92 − Radiographic Inspection Standard For Finished Hollow
Turbine Blades (XRS−83, Code G)
A. Scope
(1) This standard gives acceptance limits for
discontinuities of internal unwanted (foreign) material and excess metal as shown by radiographic inspection of finished hollow turbine blades.
B. Acceptance Limits
(1) Use the limits of this standard to accept
discontinuities shown by radiographic inspection.
C. Internal Unwanted (Foreign) Material
(1) These indications must be mapped before power flushing
to see if they are firmly attached. These indications can be accepted to the raw material requirements for excess metal if they did not move from the initial mapped location after power flushing.
(2) If there are indications of shotpeen and/or other forms
of unwanted (foreign) material (such as, metal chips, broken wire, dirt, etc.) that can be identified by their shape, form, or density, the part is not acceptable.
(3) In pedestal areas, a discontinuity must not extend from
wall to wall as shown by comparison of its radiographic film density with that of the closest pedestal.
(4) For blades with insert assemblies, the height of a
discontinuity in non−pedestal areas must NOT be greater than the closest raised metal area as shown by a comparison of their radiographic densities.
(5) Use the Code G (Table 1) acceptance limits for internal
unwanted (foreign) material in finished hollow turbine blades.
