A message for the Inca king ‫رسالة إلى ملك اإلنكا‬


(Translation)
It was before dawn when Poma heard a voice.‫سمع بوما صوتا ً قبل الفجر‬
“wake up, Poma, wake up somebody whispered" ‫همس أحدهم " استيقظ يا بوما استيقظ‬.
Poma opened his eyes. In the dim moonlight, he saw the face of his old teacher.
.‫ رأى وجه مدرسهُ القديم تحت ضوء القمر الخافت‬.‫فتح بوما عيناه‬
Poma sat up in surprise. ‫جلس بوما بدهشة‬
“ Sh!” said his teacher.” Don’t speak. Get dressed and follow me.”
.‫ أرت ِد مالبسك وأتبعني‬.‫قال معلمهُ"هشش" ال تتحدث‬
Hurriedly, Poma put on his tunic. The other boys were sleeping.
.‫ كانوا االوالد اآلخرون نائمون‬. ‫أرتدى بوما مالبسه على نحو سريع‬
He stepped quietly past them and followed the old man outside.
.‫تخطاهم بهدوء ولحق الرجل ال ُم سن إلى الخارج‬
As silent as shadows they crossed the courtyard and entered the great hall.
.‫صامتا ً كالظالم قام بتخطي الفِناء و دخل للقاعة الكبرى‬
Poma's teacher led him towards a small doorway in one corner.
‫قام معلم بوما بقيادته بإتجاه المدخل الصغير في أحد الزوايا‬
Messengers did not usually go through it.
.)‫عاد ةً ال يقوم الرُ سل(المبعوثين) بعبوره(المدخل الصغير‬
The rooms behind the hall were part of the palace.
.‫ال ُغرف خلف القاعة كانوا جزء من القلعة‬

Suddenly, the old man stopped and spoke. .‫ توقف الرجل المسن وتحدث‬،‫وفجأة‬
“ Listen, Poma, “ he said. “ You are the youngest messenger in the palace but nobody runs as fast
as you.‫قال " اسمع يا بوما " أنت أصغر رسول في هذه القلعة ولكن ال أحد يركض بسرعة بقدرك‬.
You are not yet seventeen but you are as brave as any man. Now, you have an important task.
Come.” " ‫ تعال‬.‫لم تبلغ السابعة عشر بعد ولكنك بشجاعة أي رجل(يقصد رجل كبير وشجاع) واآلن لديك َمهمه ُمهمه‬
Poma followed the old man through the narrow doorway and along a short passage. ‫قام بوما بتتبع‬
‫الرجل ال ُم سن عبر مدخل ضيق وعلى طول ممر قصير‬
They entered a large room where lamps burned brightly. ‫دخلوا غرفة كبيرة حيث كانت المصابيح تُ شرق‬
.‫زاهية‬
The golden walls glowed like the evening sun.‫لَ َمعت الجدران الذهبية كالشمس المسائية‬
Two men stood near the doorway. ‫توقف رجالن بالقرب من المدخل‬
They were talking quietly. ‫كانوا يتحدثون بهدوء‬
They stopped when they saw Poma. ‫توقفوا عن التحدث عندما رأوا بوما‬
Their tunics were fine wool with delicate patterns of gold.
.‫كان رداءهم من الصوف الناعم منقوش بدقة من الذهب‬
“ These are important people,” thought Poma..‫اعتقد بوما بأنهم أُناس مهمين‬
A table stood in the middle of the room with a gold chair next to it.
.‫كان هناك طاولة في منتصف االرض مع كرسي ذهبي بجانبها‬
There were silver cups on the table but the chair was empty. ‫كان هناك أكواب من الفضة على الطاولة ولكن‬
.ً‫الكرسي كان فارغا‬
Poma heard his teacher say, “ This is the boy, Prince Urco.” ‫َس ِمع بوما معلمه يقول" هذا هو الفتى يا أمير‬
"‫أركو‬
A tall man appeared from the shadows. ‫ظهر رجل من الظالل‬
He wore a heavy cloak over his tunic. )‫كان يرتدي عباءة ثقيلة فوق سترته(رداء كهنوتي‬
Bands of gold circled his head and his arms‫ رباط من الذهب طوق (أحاط) برأسه وذراعه‬.
A collar of gold and rare jewels was around his neck.‫قالدة من الذهب ومجوهرات نادرة كانت حول رقبته‬.
He beckoned to Poma and the boy stepped forward. .‫أشار إلى بوما وتقدم الفتى إلى األمام‬
The prince looked carefully at Poma for a moment‫نظر األمير بإمعان إلى بوما للحظة‬.
“You are strong,” he said, “but you must be clever, too.ً‫قال" إنك قوي " ولكن يجب عليك ان تكون ذكيا ً أيضا‬.
You must take a message to the king‫عليك أخذ رسالة إلى الملك‬
You must remember every word.” ‫عليك تذكر كل كلمة‬

He leaned forward and spoke clearly. ‫أنحنى إلى األمام وتحدث بوضوح‬
“ Repeat,” he commanded. Poma repeated the message .‫ كرر بوما الرسالة‬. )‫أمر باإلعادة(الرسالة‬
The prince nodded. “ Now go,” he said,” and do not fail.” ‫اومأ(حرك رأسه) األمير وقال فلنذهب اآلن وال‬
.‫تفشل‬
Poma left the room and ran back through the hall. ‫ترك بوما الغرفة وعاد راكضا ً عبر القاعة‬
He crossed the shadowy courtyard and ran out onto the road. .‫َبر الفناء المظلل وخرج على الطرق‬
َ ‫ع‬
Then he ran straight on, out of the city gates and towards the forest. ‫وبعدها ركض مباشرة(بشكل‬
.‫ علّي اال أفشل‬،‫مستقيم) خارج أبواب المدينة بإتجاه الغابة وكان يكرر علّي اال أفشل‬.

Grammar
Indefinite pronouns: (anybody, somebody, everybody, nobody)

Indefinite pronouns: are substitute words for things that cannot be or simply are
not wanted to be named exactly.
 If persons are referred to, indefinite English pronouns mostly end in ‘-body.

Typical pronouns that can replace a person are:


1. Anybody

2. Somebody

3. Everybody

4. Nobody

 In terms of grammar, they are in the singular even if they denote several
people.

Everybody likes chocolate.


Nobody likes the cakes.
Somebody is sleeping in my bed.
Anybody is free to join the swimming club.
