REVIEW OF TERMINAL WORK

BY
MR. IKENNA I. OBAJI
TOPIC: ORGAN SYSTEM

SUBTITLES CONTENT OBJECTIVES

1. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM • DEFINITION OF TERMS At the end of the lesson students
should be able to
2. EXCRETORY SYSTEM • ORGANS INVOVLVE IN THE
SYSTEMS I. Define the different systems as
3. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
listed.
• BIOLOGICAL PROCESS IN
SYSTEMS II. State the organs involve in the
systems.
• BIOLOGICAL IMPOTANCE OF
SYSTEMS III. Discuss the biological process
involve and the importance of the

systems in living organism.
“ ORGAN SYSTEM
This Is A Level Of Organization Of Life composed of related organs with a
common functional goal.

This implies that many organs come together to form a particular organ system.
 RESPIRATORY SYTEM

 EXCRETORY SYSTEM
TYPES OF ORGAN SYSYTEM
 CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

 SKELETAL SYSTEM

 DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

 HORMONAL SYSTEM

 MUSCULAR SYSTEM

ETC.

Note: Our emphasis will be on the first three types

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM.
Definition of terms
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: this is composed of all the
organs involve in the oxidation of food to form energy.
RESPIRATION: This is a biological process which involve
the oxidation of food( glucose) to form energy. This can be
done with the use of oxygen (aerobic ) or without oxygen
(anaerobic).
GASEOUS EXCHANGE: This is the process of taking in
oxygen and bringing out carbon dioxide by breathing
(inhale and exhale).
NOTE: Respiration is different from gaseous exchange.
Respiration = formation of energy.
Gaseous exchange = breathing
ORGANS INVOLVE IN
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM OF
MAN
EXAMPLES OF RESPIRATORY TRACT
INFECTION AND SYMPTOMS
 Acute bronchitis
 Common cold
 Epiglottitis
 Influenza
 Pneumonia
 Otitis media
 Tonsillitis
 Covid 19
SYMPTOMS
 Dry Cough
 Sore throat
 Sneezing
 Body pain
 Blocked nose
 Head ache
 Fever
IMPORTANCE OF RESPIRATORY
SYSTEM IN LIVING ORGANISM
The major importance of Respiratory system is in the production
of Energy in form of
ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
EXCRETORY SYSTEM
Definition of Terms.
EXCRETORY SYSTEM: This comprise of all the organs involve in the
removal of waste product from the body.
EXCRETION: This is biological process involving the removal of metabolic
waste from the body.
EGESTION: This is the removal of undigested food material from the body.
NOTE. Excretion is different from egestion. Thus,
Excretion = removal of metabolic waste.
Egestion = removal of undigested food material (faeces)
EXAMPLES OF METABOLIC/
EXCRETORY WASTE
Metabolic by-products are formed during biological activities in the body, they
include:
 Ammonia
 Carbon dioxide
 Excess water
 Excess Salt
 Urea
 Uric acid
 Bilirubin

IMPORTANCE OF EXCRETORY
SYSTEM
One major importance of excretory system in living organism is
in the removal of waste product.
Waste products are poisonous and should be remove from the
body other wise can cause diseases and ill health.
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
Definition of Terms
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM: this involve all the organs responsible for the movement of
materials in blood round the body.
Materials To Be Transported
• OXYGEN
• FOOD NUTRIENT/ MATERIALS- Eg. Carbohydrate, protein, fats and oil
• WASTE MATERIALS- Eg. CO2 , urea, uric acid, ammonia etc

• WATER AND SALT

• HORMONES-.

This materials are carried in blood from cells to their destination.

ORGANS OF CIRCULATORY SYSTEM IN ANIMALS

HEART BLOOD VESSELS BLOOD

IMPORTANCE OF CIRCULATORY
SYSTEM.
 Distribution of oxygen round the body.
 Transport of food nutrients to cells where they are needed.
 Pumping of blood as a result of heart beat.
 Transport of hormones from hormonal glands to the target
organ.
 Transport of waste materials from cells to excretory organs.
EVALUATION
1. Mention five structures seen on the diagram of heart
above
2. Mention the cells in blood as seen in the diagram
above
3. List the types of blood vessels
