C.EXPLORE
Activity 1 : Reading : Applications of Microwaves pp.155-157

Activity 2: Video presentation

D. EXPLAIN Guide Questions:

What are microwaves?
Compare microwaves to radio waves
Give the uses of microwaves?

Generalization:

Microwaves have smaller wavelengths than radio waves. They are used in satellite
communications, radar , television transmission and cooking.
E. ELABORATE
Application:
How a microwave oven cook food inside it?
A part of the oven produces microwaves. The microwaves are sent to the reflecting
fan. The microwaves are reflected in many directions by the fan and the walls of the
microwave oven. As the microwaves pass through the food, they transfer energy to the
water molecules in the form of heat. This will cook the food.
F. EVALUATE
Can you give other applications of microwaves?

G.EXTEND What is infrared?

What are the applications of infrared?
