PROPOSED STEEL STRUCTURE ON EXISTING TERMINAL BUILDING AT JODHPUR AIR PORT

Introduction
This Structural Design Basis Report is applicable to building engineering design work carried
out on proposed Steel structure on existing terminal building at Jodhpur Airport, Rajasthan by
STRUCTURE DESIGN SERVICES.
The aim of this document is to record the Steel structure performance criteria upon which the
Detail designs will be developed. It will also list the data, assumptions, design methods,
reference documents and codes of practice, upon which the building engineering design will
be based. Once the contents of this document have been agreed between the building owner
and the design team it will form a reference for the Steel structure design work carried out by
the team. Stability of existing structure should be checked by execution team before work started.

Structural Systems
The Steel structure arrangement is based on regular Truss system. The columns spacing have
been chosen considering the Steel structure layout at typical floor. The foot prints of the
column layout based on typical floor are continued down up to the foundation from existing
column and beams.

Structural system for Steel Truss at Roof

The structural floor system at Roof is conventional truss system reflecting down the beam
and Existing column. The Truss height is 6.00 m as per the details given to us.

Vertical Support System

Existing Reinforced concrete columns and three steel columns are proposed to transfer
vertical loads of Steel structure to the foundations.

Gravity Loads
A detailed breakdown of the floor loads for all buildings, at each floor level and occupancies
are presented below based on the following Dead and Live Loads:-

Dead Loads
Dead loads are to be calculated in accordance with IS 875. As a guide the following the unit
weight of the basic construction material to be adopted for design.

Live Load

Live loads are generally in accordance with IS 875: Part 2.

Wind Loads on truss

The wind loads on the structure shall be calculated as per IS 875.

Structural Design Standards

All structural elements are to be designed in accordance with the applicable requirements and
recommendations of the reference codes and standards, to meet or exceed the specified
performance. The requirements and recommendations of these codes and standards are to be
regarded as minimum criteria, and the designers will utilize the values specified within this
document, where these prove more onerous. The following design codes will be used for the
structural design latest editions and amendments:
IS 456-2000 Code of Practice for Plain and Reinforced Concrete
IS 875 (Part 1 to 5):1987 Code of Practice for Design Loads (Other Than Earthquake for
Buildings and Structures.
