III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References

1. Teacher's Guide

2. Learner's Materials

3. Textbook pages
21st century MATHletes pp. 210-220
Mathematics for a better life 5 pp. 216-218
B. Other learning resources
Cards with geometric figures, chart, song about polygon, scissors, manila paper, color paper and activity sheet.
IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting new lesson

M-A-T-H Song

1. Drill/Song

I have here flash cards and were going to identify the following
geometric figures.

1. Parallel line

2. Intersecting line

3. Acute angles

4. Right angles

5. Obtuse angles

6. Parallel line

7. Intersecting line

8. Acute angles

9. Right angles

10. Obtuse angles

2. Review

Before we proceed to another lesson, let me try if you could still

remember and understand our topic yesterday. I prepared a
short game entitled,"Who I am?"

Listen to the directions. You have to pass the objects that I'm
going to give you. When the music stops you have to pause and
answer the question.

Do you understand?

Are you now ready? Yes Teacher!

1. I'm a 3 sided polygon. Triangle

2. My 4 sides are equal. Square

3. I'm polygon with 5 sides. Pentagon

4. All my 4 sides are congruent and no right angles. Rhombus

Very good! Make a good job clap

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (Motivation)

Observe our classroom. There are things or objects that we

considered as polygons?

Can you name them?

(pupils observe the classroom)
What else? Notebook
Books
Bulletin board
Windows
Doors
Very good.

C. Presenting examples or instances of new lesson

Elisha have Php500 and she decided to go in the Divimart to buy

clocks. She bought two pentagon clocks with different sizes. The first
clock has same side but the other clock has different sides. She paid
the items for Php400. How much will be her change?

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill

Who among you experience go to Divimart Taytay?

Did you buy items?

Yes, Teacher.
What are these items?
School supplies, canned goods and etc.
Who are with you in going that place?
Do you enjoy shopping? Parents.

Yes, we do.
What do you notice about the price of their items?

Let us analyze the problem. Its economical.

Who went to Divimart?

Elisha
Where is Divimart located?
Taytay, Rizal
Elisha bought _______?
Pentagon clocks
How many clocks that Elisha plans to buy?
Two
What is the shape of the clock?
Pentagon
How much are the two clocks?
Php400
What are we trying to answer in the problem?
How much will be the change of Elisha?
What are the data that we need to answer the
problem? Amount of two clocks (Php400) and Php500 peso bill of
Elisha.

What do you think is the operation to be used?

How much will be her change? Subtraction

Php100.
Going back on the pentagon clock, who wants to measure the side of
the first clock?
Clock A (5cm,5cm,5cm,5cm,5cm)

How about on the second clock?

Clock B (5cm,5cm,7cm,7cm,6cm)
What is the shape of the clock?
Pentagon
What do you observe on their sides?

Clock 1 has same size

Do you know the properties of polygon? Clock 2 has different sizes.

Ok, today we will be discussing about properties of polygons which No, Sir.
are regular and irregular polygon.

Polygons are classified according to the number of their sides

and angels.

Polygons may either be regular or irregular. A regular polygon

has equal sides and angles. However, irregular polygons do not
have equal sides and angles.

Let us compare and describe the polygons by completing the

table.

What
do you call a polygon which has 5 sides and 5 angles?
6? 7? 8? 9? 10? 11? and 12?

E.GROUP ACTIVITY

Now lets have a group activity. What are the standards in group
activity? You will finish the task after 10 minutes.

(after 10 minutes each group will present their work)

Group 1
Direction: Write Yes, if the polygon is regular and No, if not.
Count the number of sides and angles of each polygon.

Group 2

Direction: Complete the table.

Group 3

Direction: Draw the following regular polygons.

1. Hexagon ( 6 inches)
2. Triangle ( 8 inches)
3. Pentagon ( 4 inches)
4. Quadrilateral ( 5 inches)
5. Heptagon ( 3 inches)

Group 4

Direction: Draw the following irregular polygons.

1. Decagon
2. Octagon
3. Hexagon
4. Triangle
5. Pentagon

Group 5
Direction: Identify the name of the polygons and count
the number of sides and angles by completing the
table.Use the picture below.

Did you enjoy the activity?

Do you answered it correctly?

Do you finish the activity?

Are all your members participate on the said activity?

What is the character trait that needs the whole participation in

Cooperation.
doing group activity?

Yes,cooperation is important without this we cannot

Do you think cooperation is important? finished our task.

Why did you say,so?

Polygons are closed figure.

Generalization:
Regular and irregular poygons.
What are polygons?
Polygons with all sides are congruent and all angles
congruent are called regular polygons.
What are the properties of polygons?
Irregular polygons do not have equal sides and angles.
When do we say that a polygon is regular?
Polygons may either be regular or irregular. A regular
When do we say that a polygon is irregular? polygon has equal sides and angles. However, irregular
polygons do not have equal sides and angles.
Differentiate regular from irregular polygons?

H. Evaluation
Key Answer:
Direction: Identify each polygon. State whether it is regular or
irregular polygon. 1.Triangle, Regular Polygon

1. 2.Quadrilateral, Regular Polygon

3.Pentagon, Irregular Polygon

4.Hexagon, Irregular Polygon

2. 5. Nonagon, Irregular Polygon

3.

4.

I. Additional activities for application or remediation

Direction: Answer the following. Refer to the figures

shown below.

Are there polygons which appear to be irregular? Name them.

Are there polygons which appear to be similar? Name them.

Which pieces can you join together to form a regular polygon?

VI. REFLECTION
A. No. Of learners who earned 75% in the evaluation.

B. No. Of learners who require additional activities for remediation

who scored below 80%

C. Did the remedial lesson work? No. Of learners who have caught
up with the lesson.

D. No. Of lectures who continue to require remediation.

E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did these

work?

F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor

can help me solve?

G. What innovation or localized materials did I use Discover which l

wish to share with other teachers?
