On the 24th of February, our class for CTI had an educational field trip to Subic Bay to
educate us IT students about the different roles our field has in the branches of industry and
why we must learn about it through visiting many locations within the locale. Our trip started at
around 4 AM, later arriving at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center around 7 AM,
where a speaker joined us to discuss his role as an IT expert on the field and the importance of
data centers in modern times, such as being a reliable tool for storing data cheaply and its
security should be tight to prevent liabilities.
The next stop of our trip was the PAGASA weather station which was kinda cool for me
because the place had different computers and devices which were used for things, such as
detecting the weather, low-pressure areas, and temperature, we also got a brief explanation of
how the weather systems in our country work and how it is connected to satellites to view the
earth in real-time. For the last destination, we went to a local radio station in Subic and met DJ
Tommy who shared about the history of Subic as an area for the American military and then
went on about the different parts of the radio station that make it work, surprisingly a radio
station is really expensive with the transistors and antenna that it uses,
Overall, I found the experience quite nice and the different things I heard and saw will be
a great help for me in the future, as it changed my perspective of what my role in this field would
be and the different things I could do as I go along learning more and more.
