Unit 2 : Second Activity – To specify a Purpose for Research and
collect Data
1. The purpose of your research:
The purpose for research consists of identifying the major intent or
objective for a study and narrowing it into specific research questions or
hypotheses, in so doing, you must write two (2) paragraphs specifying a
purpose for your chosen educational problem in first activity.
All these examples were taken from “Developing Oral Skills through
Communicative and Interactive Tasks” Dorelly Gutiérrez Gutiérrez
(2005):

First paragraph: The purpose of this research project is to inquire about

the development of oral production and how interaction and the task-
based approach could contribute to improve the quality and the
development of students’ speaking skills, it was undertaken in the form
of action research in which the teacher researcher reflected on the
speaking tasks carried out with ninth grade students at Britalia high
school.
Second paragraph: Moreover, this action research allows teachers to
inquire about learning problems and reflect on their pedagogical
practice, and is an ongoing process of continuous reflection, redesigning
and rethinking to improve pedagogical practice in each cycle letting
them reflect on students’ needs and, at the same time, be aware of the
main changes needed in the pedagogical practice.
2. Research questions:
You must write two (2) research questions; i.e.:

First question: ¿What are the influential factors that related to the
students' weakness level at in speaking skill at elementary grades?
Second question:¿How can students overcome the weakness in
speaking skill at elementary grades?

3. Collecting Data
You must design one survey with ten (10) questions and their options
respectively, all in full English; i.e.:
