LEARNING OBJECTIVES

M At the end of the lesson, most pupils will be able to name and describe at least 3 shapes correctly.

At the end of the lesson, most pupils will be able to read and understand the descriptions by drawing and
C colouring at least 3 shapes correctly.
1. Draw a circle and a square on the board.
2. Teach the word shape.
I. PRE-LESSON 3. Ask pupils what other shapes they know. Volunteer pupils come and draw them.
4. If pupils don’t come to the board, draw a triangle, a parallelogram and a rectangle.
5. Write the words under the shapes.
1. Activity 1:
Show flashcards of shapes and read them aloud. Pupils listen and repeat. Do this a
few times. Ask pupils to find whether they can see these shapes in their classroom.

2. Activity 2:
II. LESSON Read the first sentence aloud and check pupils understand what a tangram is. Use
DEVELOPMENT the picture to support understanding. Elicit one or two shapes they can see. Pupils
look for more shapes in pairs and tell each other what shapes they can and can’t see.
Check answers with the class.
3. Activity 3:
Read the instruction aloud. Elicit what pupils think are missing means. Demonstrate
the activity. In groups, pupils identify what shapes are missing. Check and discuss
with the class.
1. Distribute worksheets.
a. Activity 1 : pupils listen to the recording and number the correct shapes.
III. POST LESSON b. Activity 2: pupils read the descriptions, draw and colour the shapes.
