1. GENERAL
1.1. NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES
1.1.1. RUN-UP TESTS
Request for engine testing clearance at any type of regime, as well as any ques-
tion regarding engine testing procedures, must be addressed to:

Engine performance testing at idle speed with a duration of less than 2 minutes
may be performed at stands 4A, 5, 6, 6A, 7, 8 and 9.
Engine performance testing at idle speed with a duration longer than 2 minutes
may be performed at stands 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 12A, 13, 14 and 14A.
If the testing is not at idle speed it must take place at the THRs.

1.2. STANDSTILL OF OPERATIONS IN THE MOVEMENT AREA


PROCEDURE (PPOAM)
Standstill Operations Procedure in the Movement Area is available, when RVR is
below 550m with the following phases:
PHASE 0: Notice:
Conditions of RVR below 800m: notification to all concerned services and users to
prepare.
PHASE I: Standstill of operations:
RVR is below 550m: TWR shall not authorize operations while these conditions
persist, except special operations provided for in the procedure.
PHASE II: Renewal of operations:
RVR is 600m or above with a steady trend towards improvement, after checking
the status of the facilities and especially the movement area, if appropriate.

1.3. RWY OPERATIONS


RWY 36 shall be used for take-off and landing whenever the tail wind component
does not exceed 10 KT and/or a cross wind of wind 25 KT.
All jet ACFT must back-track at RWY end following taxi guidance sign.

1.4. OPERATION OF CODE LETTER D OR E ACFT


The operation of ACFT 4D (up to B767-300 and B767-400) and 4E (up to A330-200
and A330-300) is permitted.
ACFT shall taxi at low speed, with engines idling, and whenever possible and in
the case of a four-engine ACFT, with the outer engines switched off.
Separation distance between RWY and TWY centerlines is 352.7'/ 107.5m.

1.5. TAXI PROCEDURES


Once cleared to taxi, the ACFT must start taxiing in less than 60 seconds, other-
wise the authorization will be cancelled.

1.6. PARKING INFORMATION


At stands 4, 4A, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9:
- Use of 400 Hz facilities is mandatory.
- The use of the ACFT APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) is prohibited in these stands
in the period between 2 minutes after blocks-on for arrivals and 5 minutes
before blocks-off for departures.
- The ACFT APU may only be used when the 400 Hz facilities or mobile units are
not operating.
On stands 3 thru 12, 13, 14 and H02 push-back required.
Stands 4 thru 10 equipped with visual docking guidance system.

1.7.1 GENERAL
Helicopter operations.
Area of magnetic abnormality.
RWY 36 right-hand circuit.
1.7.2. WIND PHENOMENA
Hillside wind generates strong turbulence in an area of up to 10NM, within alti-
tudes of 1000' to 1500'. It is produced for RWY 36 by wind direction between
210^ and 310^, with an intensity of 15 KT or more and QNH less than 1008 hPa.
Additionally, hillside wind can be found with QNH of 1000-1003 hPa with intensi-
ties less than 15 KT.
A strong windshear effect can be produced in short final position (of up to 50')
with variations of direction and intensity of 10 KT and 10^ between the APT's
anemometers. Under such circumstances, when wind direction is close to 330^,
the effects of windshear and turbulence can appear combined.
When the hillside wind has a direction of 210^-310^ and an intensity higher than
15 KT, an approach is not recommended.
It is recommended that aircrews have a basic level of recent experience in the
APT.

2. ARRIVAL
2.1. OPERATION OF CODE LETTER D OR E ACFT
Stands 9 and 13 available for code letter D ACFT.
Stands 4A, 6A, 12, 12A-South, 12A-North, 14, 14A-South and 14A-North availa-
ble for code letter E ACFT.
ACFT of code letter E must perform oversteering maneuver on RWY exit.
ACFT shall be guided from the TWYs to their stands, if there is no docking guid-
ance available.
For autonomous stands (nosing to North and South) all possible efforts shall be
made to prevent ACFT to accomplish a turn of 130^ to access the stand from TWY.
Should this case arise, during this maneuver and until the zone has been reviewed
by Taxi Operations Aircraft Marshaller (TOAM) to verify that no Foreign Object
Damage (FOD) has been generated by the jet blast of the engines, no operations
by other ACFT, either landing or taking off, will be cleared.

3. DEPARTURE
3.1. RWY OPERATIONS
3.1.1. MINIMUM RWY OCCUPANCY TIME
ATC shall consider that any ACFT which arrives at the holding position is com-
pletely ready to taxi to position on the RWY and start take-off immediately after
receiving the corresponding clearance. ACFT which cannot comply with this
requirement shall inform ATC before reaching that holding position.

RWY Incursion Hot Spots
HS1 and HS2 -  Caution when entering apron (ACFT
backward movements).

Arrivals
ACFT shall establish radio contact with LA PALMA
TOWER over REPs: E, N or S and request clearance to
enter CTR. ACFT will be cleared to join the AD traffic
circuit or to hold over REPs until obtaining clearance.
Within the CTR 1000' AMSL or 1000' AGL shall be
maintained.

Radio Failure
ACFT with communications failure maintaining 1000' AGL
or AMSL or below, shall enter CTR by REP E maintaining
1000' AGL or AMSL or below and proceed to the
communications failure circuit expecting light signals and
staying away from any possible TFC in the AD circuit.

Wind Phenomena
Orographic conditions on the island of La Palma and the
airport situation favour the appearance, in certain
circumstances, of windshear and turbulence phenomena.
The hillside wind generates a strong turbulence which
manifests itself in an area of up to 10 NM, within altitudes
from 1000' to 1500'. It is produced when the notified
direction of the wind for RWY 36 ranges between 210º
and 310º, with an intensity equal or above 15 KT and QNH
less than 1008 mb. Additionaly hillside wind can be found
with QNH of 1000-1003 mb with intensities below 15 KT.
A strong windshear effect can be produced in short final
position (up to 50') with variations of direction and
intensity of 10 KT and 10º between the airport's
anemometers. Under such circumstances, when wind
direction is close to 330º the effects of windshear and
turbulence can appear combined.
When the hillside wind has a direction of 210º-310º and an
intensity higher than 15 KT, APP is not recommended.
Similarly, it is recommended that ACFT crew possess a
basic level of recent experience in the airport.
