4.1 Introduction Review the different features and parts of paragraph. Present a paragraph and have the students
5 minutes identify the topic sentence, the supporting details, and the concluding sentence.
4.2 Activity A. Show and Tell.
10 minutes Show pictures of myths and legends in the Philippines. Ask students to share what stories they know
about the pictures.

4.3 Analysis Engage students in the discussion of the mentioned myths and legends by asking the following, but not
10 minutes limited to, questions:
1. What do you feel upon knowing/hearing these stories?
2. How does each story present the unique cultural identity of the Philippines?
3. Are these stories true? Do you have personal experiences in each of the stories?
4. Can you retell a story that you have heard from your grandparents?
5. How can we retell such good old stories?

4.4 Abstraction 1. Lead the discussion. Input background on Filipino legends, myths, and folklores. Define myths and

2. Discuss the significance of storytelling traditions.
Many of today’s youth get straightforward answers to their queries about the how and why of
things, by simply researching on the internet. Hence, they never had the experience of hearing quaint
but fascinating explanations in the form of folklore and myths.
3. Explain the importance of learning and retelling of these local myths and legends in the preservation
of local culture and identity of people.
4. Introduce the steps in writing a paragraph to help students kick off in retelling myths and legends.

4.5 Application List down 10 myths and legends on the board. Have the students pick one and retell the myth or

2. Why does a rainbow appear after a drizzle?
3. Why does the Philippines have 7000 islands?
4. The tales of Aliguyon
5. Why do pineapple fruits have many eyes?
6. The story of Maria Makiling
7. Si Malakas at si Maganda
8. The legend of Mayon Volcano
9. Biag ni Lam-ang
10. The Legend of the First Firefly

If students could hardly write about any of the suggestions, they may turn to their head and refer to
what they know instead.
