Welcome Parents!
My introductory letter
Hello Parents!
Welcome to Ms. Kim’s third grade class. Today I met your children and I
can already tell what a great bunch of students they’ll be this year. Take
the time to ask them what they have learned today about classroom
expectations.
It takes a village to raise a child so I will call upon you to join me on
Remind and ClassDojo where I can communicate with you during the
school year. Your child has a HW folder so open it up to see their future
assignments and announcements.
I look forward to working with you!
Sincerely,
Ms. Kim
Parent/Teacher Communication
Morning Routine
• Students should enter the room and put away their backpack,
lunch, and coat in their cubby. They can turn in their homework,
make their lunch choice, and note how they’re going home.
Finally they can look at the board for directions.
• Most mornings there will be a worksheet on their desk or they
can read quietly at their desks.
• During this time there will be music playing softly in the
background.
Class Duties
• On Monday mornings I would randomly choose a student for
Classroom duties. I would make sure everyone knew what to do
before beginning the day. Class duties include but are:
• Line leader
• Caboose
• Lunch Box duty
• Paper Passer
• Paper Collector
• Supplies leader
Hallway Expectation
• The line leader and caboose will already have been selected for the
week. Students are expected to line up as quickly as possible and will
leave the classroom using a call and response to quiet them down
such as ‘Shark Bait!” “Hoo Haha” or “Are you ready to rock?” “I’m
ready to roll”
• Being respectful requires them to be quiet in the hall so as not to
distract other classes, and not touch the wall or anything hanging from
the wall. The line leader will lead the class and stop at the corners. I will
be at the back of the line to ensure that all students are behaving in
the hall.
• During the times when students are waiting in the hall, I will play a silent
game that involves minimal movement but will keep their attention like
‘opposite point’ or ‘Simon says’
Bathroom
• Students would have scheduled bathroom breaks. One would be two
hours into the school day, 30 minutes after lunch, and an hour before
dismissal.
• The expectation for behavior in the bathroom is a silent single file line
outside of the door. If there are three stalls then three children can
enter at a time. They will wash their hands efficiently as they have
been taught or use hand sanitizer. Then they will exit the bathroom and
reenter the line.
• If a student needs to use the bathroom immediately, they will write
their name on the bathroom clipboard and turn on the timer. Upon
coming back, they will stop and reset the timer. This will ensure that
they come back in a timely manner. If there are three instances that
the timer goes off for one student, then I will remind them of my
expectations.
Hygiene
• In the beginning of the school year I will teach the importance of
being clean. Classmates should be considerate of each other and
cover their mouths while sneezing or coughing. In addition, after
getting messy and using the bathroom, they must wash their hands.I
will teach how to wash your hands in the ‘fishbowl.’
• Using soap and water is always preferable to hand sanitizer when it
comes to hygiene. But for the sake of time hand sanitizer is permissible.
• Use soap to kill germs. Scrub your palm, back of your hand, and
between fingers.
• Wash for at least 15 seconds, sing ‘happy birthday’ twice and rinse
under warm water.
• Shake off water ten times and dry hands using only one paper towel.
Supplies
• All the materials and supplies would have specific locations
around the classroom. I would explain the layout of the
classroom on the first day. The students would know not to touch
what is on my desk and in my drawers but there would be
sections of the classroom that is communal.
• There would be community supplies in each group of desks that
one person in each group would be designated to pass out.
Cleaning
• A clean classroom is when the desks are
clear, pencils and papers are put away,
and seats are pushed in.
• I would make students involved in taking
care of our classroom by giving them a
piece of tape to roll on the carpet and
call them my Vacuum 2000. This would get
them moving around the classroom and
give them a role they can be proud of.
Dismissal
• At the end of the day a timer will go off 15 minutes
before dismissal.
• I will make closing remarks
• Students will pack their bags with homework folder. I
will remind them of the announcements of the day.
Once students have all of their belongings packed,
their backpacks will hang on their seats and they will
sit in their seats and watch a children’s show, or be
read to before they are ready to leave.
• I will know who rides the bus, gets picked up, or walks
home based on what they tell me on the board.
