KIRLOSKAR OIL ENGINES LIMITED


Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited (earlier known as Kirloskar Engines
India Limited) is engaged in the design, manufacture, marketing and
sale of Diesel Engines, Diesel Generating Sets, their spares and Auto
Components (“Bearings”). The Company was incorporated in January
2009 with the objective of taking over the Engines and Bearings
business of Kirloskar Industries Limited (earlier known as Kirloskar Oil
Engines Limited) pursuant to a Scheme of Arrangement approved by
the High Court of Judicature at Bombay vide its order dated 31 st July
2009 read with its order dated 19th March 2010.
The operations of Company comprise of Engines and Bearings
business. This business segmentation forms the basis for review of
operational performance.
KOEL works in following sectors.

1) POWER GENERATION :
KOEL specialises in the manufacture of both air-cooled and
liquid-cooled diesel engines and generating sets across a wide range
of power output from 5kVA to 3000kVA. We also offer engines
operating on alternative fuels such as bio-diesel, natural gas, biogas
and straight vegetable oil (SVO). The “Kirloskar Green Genset” is the
market leader and most preferred brand among customers in the
power generation and telecom industry in India.
Our customised power solutions suits a wide range of
applications including both standby and prime power requirements.
Our generating sets are available in both open and sound proof,
environmentally friendly canopies.

The major markets served are:

 Service industries such as telecom, IT/ITES, BPO, shopping


malls, hotels, hospitals, and banks; educational and financial
institutions.

 Infrastructure projects such as airports, roads, bridges,


residential and commercial complexes, townships, high-rise
buildings and many more.
 Other significant industries include engineering, manufacturing,
FMCG, automobile and auto ancillaries, textile,
pharmaceuticals, dairy, and food processing.
 Defence agencies, such as the air force, army and navy, as well
as the coast guard.

2) LARGE ENGINES :

The Large Engines business group (LEBG) manufactures and


markets diesel engines from 2,400 hp to 11,000 hp. The main
applications of these engines are captive power plants (base load /
critical standby - AMF or black start) and marine main propulsion.

Our LEBG division caters to the needs of various organisations


such as the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd., Bharat Heavy
Electricals Ltd. and consultants like Engineers India Ltd., MECON,
DCPL, PDIL, Bechtel, Fichtner etc.

3) AGRICULTURE :

In the agriculture market, we fulfil the motive power needs of


customers; essentially farmers, who require products in 3 hp to 130
hp in the global agri space. We manufacture a variety of quality
diesel pumpsets and agri engines powering more than 25
applications across five sectors.

Our pumpsets have been greening the soils of India, Egypt, Africa,
and Latin and Central America. We are the most preferred brand
amongst farmers because of our reliable performance and fuel
efficiency.

4) INDUSTRIAL ENGINE :

The Industrial Engine business group's activities are moulded


according to the motive power needs of customers who require
products from 20 hp to 800 hp in the Industrial Engine space globally.
We manufacture a variety of quality diesel engines powering more
than 85 Industrial Engine applications across seven sectors.

KOEL engines are the preferred choice when it comes to powering


earth moving, construction, mining, fluid handling, material handling
equipments and marine applications.

All our engines are emission-compliant and fulfill EPA Tier III / EU
Stage III emission norms and are future-ready for EPA Tier-IV / EU
Stage-IV.

MANUFACTURING FACILITIES :

Four facilities with a workforce of more than 3100 people.


Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd (KOEL) has a nation-wide network of operations that
delivers high-quality products. We have advanced manufacturing units in India
at our Pune, Nashik, Rajkot and Kolhapur plants. Our state-of-the-art
manufacturing facilities ensure that KOEL engines are manufactured in an
optimised and eco-friendly manner.

The Pune-based unit additionally includes administrative, sales & marketing,


sourcing & testing and validation facilities.

Our large engines facility at Nashik includes a machine shop and assembly line
capable of manufacturing most of the necessary components for in-line and
vee engines. Our engine test facility is well-equipped to test engines from 2.5
MW to 10 MW dynamometers. We also have facilities to test diesel generating
(DG) sets up to 5 MW rating.

The manufacturing plants are well-equipped with advanced CNC machinery;


they have modern, cutting-edge technology for the machining of all critical
components. The units are safe, environment friendly and energy-efficient.

KOEL strives to continuously improve its production lines. The manufacturing


facilities are consistently upgraded and improved to ensure total built-in
quality at a competitive cost.

We follow the highest levels of quality adherence

Pursuing "Quality First" principle being the chosen value system,


KOEL continuously takes various measures to make" Built-in Quality"
happen.

Adherence to Quality Management Systems as per the latest


International Standards is a step towards the same. All the plants of
KOEL are certified to ISO/ TS 16949:2009 or ISO 9001: 2008 series of
Standards by ABS Quality Evaluations, U.S.A.

Corporate Quality and Plant level Quality structures enable requisite


planning, control and implementation of Company-wide Quality
Policy and horizontal deployment of best practices in line with the
defined Quality Concept.
 
Besides traditional Quality functions, additional emphasis is on

 Formulating, implementing and monitoring " Quality


Improvement Programs" to prevent Critical Quality issues in a
structured manner. Six Sigma Black Belt and Green Belt
programs with the help of CII.
 Enhanced Capabilities through process control and excellent
manufacturing infrastructure supported by requisite inspection
& testing facilities.
 Providing high performance oriented range of engines and
generating sets with requisite number of quality checks at
every stage of value addition.
 Focused programs to reduce variability and enhance Quality
levels of suppliers
 Assessment and consequent process improvements at Genset
OEM plants.

As a result of its thrust on quality and technology, KOEL enjoys

Certification by International Bodies like Factory Mutual (FM),
Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

In its movement towards Business Excellence and with the objective


of achieving International level of Quality, KOEL has adopted CII-
EXIM Business Excellence Model. Through this model and annual
assessment exercises, KOEL is institutionalising continuous
improvement in all its operations.

ACHIEVEMENTS
 March ended on a high as KOEL was declared the winner of the
‘Golden Peacock Innovative Product/ Service Award’ for the
year 2018, for Mega T. The award was presented at the ‘Golden
Peacock Awards Presentation Ceremony on April 18, in Dubai,
UAE.
 Agri BU felicitated as ‘Champion of Rural Markets’ by The
Economic Times. Over the last 6 years, The Economic Times
Rural Strategy Summit has established a benchmark for leaders
to deliberate on the opportunities offered by rural markets. The
2018 edition of the summit was held on the 26th and 27th of
September, 2018 in New Delhi. During the summit, companies
that had fostered rural markets over the years were selected
and honored, and the BU unit of Kirloskar Oil Engines was
among them!
 Recognition for KOEL at Clarivate India Innovation Awards
2018: Clarivate Analytics Innovation Awards have been
instituted to honor India’s organizations, enterprises, and
institutions for their spirit of innovation. This year, on the 24th
of August, Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited was declared as one of
the top 30 innovators in the ‘corporate’ category

MILESTONES :
 2015:  Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd signs MoU with MTU Friedrichshafen,
GmbH.

 2014:  KOEL Green – the new brand Identity for KOEL gensets


WINgineering – KOEL’s first CPCB II compliant genset launched
Multipurpose farm equipment – Mega T launched.

 2013:  KOEL enters Limca Book of records for 7 consecutive ‘in time
