1.0 INTRODUCTION

The method statement provides a methodology for the installation of equipment/


material for the proposed smoke curtain system.

It shall consist of

a) Pre Planning Stage

b) Construction Stage

c) Completion Stage

2.0 PRE-PLANNING STAGE

Content Method of Inspection


1. Submission of drawing - Check drawings and/or
architectural/structural drawings

defect/damages to comply with size

3.0 MATERIAL PRE-INSTALLATION CHECKLIST

3.1 General

All materials shall be checked at site and verified by the respect engineer-in-
charge by means of the Delivery order. In addition, they will certify that the
materials are in order by signing off the preceding forms prior to the installation
of the materials. Upon signing off, PowerDel Engineering Sdn Bhd will assign the
contractors to commence work.

In the event of a non-compliance situation, the engineer-in-charge will indicate the


non-compliance at the check-list. The reason of the non-compliance shall be
written down and submitted back to PowerDel Engineering Sdn Bhd for
rectification. Upon rectification of non-compliance by PowerDel Engineering Sdn
Bhd, the material will be re-submitted for certification before commencing work.

5.0 INSTALLATION METHOD

5.1 Motorised Smoke Curtain

The major components of the smoke curtain comprises of:

- Smoke curtains rolled up with individual rollers


- Control panel
- Motor inside the tubular roller which controls the ascend/descend of the curtains
- Weight bottom bar which pulls the curtain down
- Boxing to enclosed the smoke curtain and the rollers above the ceiling level

The following is the step installation procedures for motorized smoke curtains.

1. Site measurement of actual curtain dimension.

2. Factory fabrication of smoke curtain boxing based on site measurement.

3. Material (smoke curtain boxing) is sent to site by transporter and visually


check by site supervisor according to material check list Delivery note is
endorsed and recorded. If non-compliance, PowerDel Engineering Sdn Bhd
to resolve non-compliance, material rectified and re-inspected.

4. Installation of smoke curtain boxing by contractors using hanger rods and


MS angles to hold the boxing.

5. Layout wiring from control panel to smoke curtain units.

6. Material (smoke curtains, rollers and electrical components) arrived to site


and visually checked by site supervisor according to material check list.
Delivery note is endorsed and recorded.

7. Hoist the materials to respective floor and installation of the curtains.

8. Termination of all wiring to the motors and panels.

9. Power supply to the panels and manual testing of roller


ascending/descending.

10. Setting of upper limits and lower limits for the curtains level adjustment.

11. Manual testing of rollers ascending/descending based on pre-set upper and


lower limits.

12. Ascend the rollers in UP position until F.F.L. / 2.1m from F.F.L. and ceiling
has been completed.

13. Installation of the bottom bars.

14. Testing the motorised smoke curtain in manual mode and auto mode.

15. Upon completion of smoke curtain installation, the client’s site


supervisor/project manager will inspect the system for conformance to
drawing/specification and quality.

16. Client to check and verified motorised smoke curtain installation and
certified using Post-installation checklist.

5.2 Fixed Smoke Curtain / Barrier

The major components of the fixed smoke curtain comprises of:

- Smoke curtains fabric.


- 25mm x 50mm Rectangle Hollow Section (RHS)
- 25 mm x 0.8mm (thk) G.I plate (flat bar)
- Self tapering screw

The following is the step installation procedures for fixed smoke curtains/barrier.

1. Determine/mark the position/location and make allowances for opening


of M&E services (ductworks/pipework/trunking).
2. Fix the RHS framing to existing trusses at spacing of 1200mm centre by
welding/screw.
3. Cut RHS frame to fit height required.
4. Lift precut fiberglass curtain and fixed onto framing member.
5. Finish joints with all G.I plate/capping with self-tapering screws @ ±
300mm c/c.
6. Where ductworks/pipework/trunking crossing is needed, the fixed
smoke curtain/barrier shall be cut to accommodate the size of duct/pipe
crossing.

6.0 PROCEDURE FOR SMOKE CURTAIN INSTALLATION

6.1 Motorised Smoke Curtain

7.0 PROCEDURE FOR STARTER PANEL INSTALLATION & WIRING WORKS

9.0 POST INSTALLATION CHECKLIST

9.1 General

In general, all the materials, i.e., smoke curtains, are checked by external
visual & without any equipment. The checking shall be carried out by
client’s representative in charge with the presence of one PowerDel
Engineering Sdn Bhd personnel.

Checking is done at random using the check list provided.
