CONSTRUCTION STUDIES LESSON PLAN

Student Name: Sean Gallagher

ID: G00354679

Subject: Construction Studies Topic: Roofs

Pupil Year Group: 5th Year No. of Pupils: 8 Students
Lesson Number: 19th Lesson Length of lesson: 60 Minutes
Date: 8th February 2021 Time of Lesson: 12:20 – 13:20

1. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE AND OSERVATIONS

The students have identified that they are really enjoying my online classes compared to some of
their other online classes. They have said that the classes are very engaging and that they are not just
sitting inactive in the lesson all of the time. This has pleased me as I have taking time in considering
how my lessons run in the planning stage. They also love the ability that I am free to any questions
the whole throughout the lesson.

The students have also identified that they do enjoy the independent research of the topics after I
give them the base knowledge in the area of the lesson that is at hand. They feel like they are the
ones in control of the learning and then they bring their learning together in the presentation of their
findings. It is truly great watching the students carry out the task to the best of their ability.

The students have also stated that the submission of the recap questions anonymously has helped
with their insecurities of answering straight into the chat on teams. The anonymous answers work
better as there can be no teasing of wrong answers that are attached to a name. This has worked very
well and I get following answers off the students.

The one thing that I can work on in future lessons is making sure that the students are comfortable
using the chat with their findings or the mic on their laptops. The Padlet might be a good way that
they can peer teach as well with the wall getting filled out with research findings. However this is
more than comfortable than using the chat function and microphones to communicate their findings.

2. LESSON RATIONALE

Brief outline of why this content is the basis of the lesson KEY*

The teacher will lead a recap on roof ventilation to reinforce the students learning from the RL
previous lesson with the aid of Padlet.

The teacher will highlight areas that the students are making common mistakes in and show RL
an example of best practice standards for both sketching and board drawings. This is done
to highlight the standards the students need to be at.

The teacher will lead a presentation to inform the students of the different types of flat roof NL
constructions that are available to construct in the building. This done to show the students
and give them the base point for their independent research.
The students will complete independent research on flat roofs and compare the NL
construction of both cold deck and warm deck flat roof. The students are doing this to
further their knowledge in the area of flat roofs.

The teacher will allow the students to present their findings on flat roof construction to NL
increase their communication skills and allow them to become confident in their
communication.

The teacher will lead an end recap on flat roof construction to end the lesson to reinforce RL
the students learning from the lesson.
