Workshop: Getting started as a translator

As part of your English Learning Process, it is important to get familiar with


technical vocabulary in order to be able to translate short pieces of texts containin
technical information.
A. Getting familiar with thechnical vocabulary
After revising the vocabulary in the material “Strategic framework: developing
guidelines”, read the given definitions and complete the followig crossword.

I leaned on the translator to try to understand the words that seemed


misspelled and those that I did not know

2. According to your experience, do you consider that translation is a complex


activity? Explain.

I consider that it can be complex when there are no guidelines for


understanding phrases or texts, however it is important to practice daily so that
English does not become a headache

3. What do you think is necessary to do a correct translation?

Of course it is important because by not locating the words correctly it


would change the meaning of the whole sentence

4. According to your experience, what is the most difficult aspect about


translation?

The most complex, or detailed, part is locating the correct meaning of each
word and then arranging the sentences consistently.
