Motor

 Power source

 Convert: electric energy  mechanic energy

 Produce linear or rotary force

Motor construction

ROTOR: +Moving part

+inductor
+Commutator
+Winding(wires laid in coils)

STATOR: + Stationary part

+Armature
+Consist laminations (thin metal sheet)

AIR GAP: + Produce magnetizing current

+ Small distance-->Strong negative effect
Basic operation
 Fan connects to wire that controls switch
 Capacitor torques up the electric motor , allowing to run
 An electric current passes through motor and enter coils of wire
 Magnet field is caused that expends forces in clockwise motion
→ electric energy into mechanical energy
→ coil spins
 Fan captures spinning motion , transfers it to fan blades

 Air is pushed downward , causing breeze

Type of Fan
 Mechanical Fans  Electric Fans
Mechanical Fans
 Clutch Fans  Flex Fans
Clutch fans
• controlled by a thermostat and utilize a clutch
• keeps spinning at about 30 percent of the water
speed
• Use a temperature-sensitive fan that allows the fan to
disengage and engage according to difference
operating conditions
Flex fans

• operate at 100 percent of water pump speed

• lighter than clutch fans
• feature blades that flatten out at higher rpms for greater efficiency.
choice for stock or mildly modified street cause parasitic horsepower loss
vehicles (car, light trucks)
Electric Fans

• powered by vehicle’s electrical system

• a more efficient alternative to mechanical fans
• don’t cause the dreaded parasitic horsepower loss
Advantages Disadvantages
Consistent cooling Expensive

Reduced water pump wear Multiple fan used for better control

Versatility

Multiple sizes and configurations
