Eyes Through Everything; Things are Not What They Seem

People do their actions considering the cause and effects of it, based on their experiences
or maybe they do their actions based on the situation. A person named Albert Bandura made a
conceptual framework called the Triadic Reciprocal Causation. This concept pertains on how
people think or do their actions. It’s not just about what we want to do because many of us
consider different things before doing an action. I will tell you first the real meaning of this
Triadic Reciprocal Causation.

Triadic reciprocal causation is made up of personal factors, behavior, and the environment.
According to Albert Bandura’s model of reciprocal determinism, this triangle illustrates how the
behavior of an individual can and will be affected by personal factors and environmental
elements, and vice versa. Bandura argues that, very often, our environment brings changes
within us, while our behavior may also originate changes in our surroundings. It is a sequence of
events that can occur in a different order at different times. An important takeaway from the
reciprocal determinism theory is that we are a product of our past.

This model suggests that these three components are continually interacting with one another.
Just as the environment exerts an influence on individual behavior, a person's actions also play a
part in influencing the environment.

Earlier thought often portrayed children as simply passive recipients of environmental

influences, which suggested that they could simply be shaped and molded in whatever way that
parents, educators, and other caregivers chose.

In this explanation, do we really consider the concept model of Mr. Bandura? For me, the
Triadic model is the best representation for the actions of the people. It shows the viewpoint of
each person on their purposes of doing such things. The behavior of the person depends on each
of the factor included in the concept model of Mr. Bandura. Using this model, you can go
through the mind of a person knowing their own perspective in life. How they approach, how
they act, how they consider etc. This is a great way of observation of the behavior of a person
knowing that the person, environment and behavior factors occur in different situations and
scenarios. For this represents the way of thinking of each person, we can more understand the
reasons behind each of their action. We see their points that might change the way we also think
like Yes, they are right, that might be a good idea, I will do it also when that scenario comes. We
can get lesson, ideas, experiences from other people when we study about this PBE model.

I also experience this PBE model in everyday life even if I didn’t know about it before.
The best example is when I’m studying in school. When I take an exam, quiz or any assessment,
I always feel bad when I get low scores because it makes me feel my self-esteem low and
confidence but somehow to make myself feel better I think of ways to make my scores high on
the next quiz or exam. Yes, I’m not the only one who failed but it doesn’t mean we can have the
same techniques or study habits. We ourselves have different systems in our mind on how we
can learn easily. We can’t depend on the students who passed on how they study for it because
that study habit might be effective to them and not to others. In this scenario, I can’t rely on our
environment on how others study. I may rely on my behavior because maybe my current study
habit makes me feel complicated about the lessons or I can rely on how my brain works to focus
on studying. Since I know myself than others, I know the limitations of my brain as a person and
it means I can apply my actions on the factor of person and behavior. As you can see those
factors doesn’t occur all the time. Some factors might not include or make an impact in every
decision all the time. If all factors occurred and identified. It is called Reciprocal determinism by
Albert Bandura. It’s basically a theory set forth by psychologist Albert Bandura which states that
a person's behavior both influences and is influenced by personal factors and the social
environment. In this article, I’ve learned that we shouldn’t look on our own perspective because
not all the people have the same viewpoint in life. They have own ways to deal every situation
and we also have our own strengths and weaknesses. We should also consider things around us
before taking action because everything might affect the whole situation and it may have
different consequences.
