A. Customary Activities
1. Prayer
Mica, will you lead us a prayer? Let us bow our heads and feel the presence of
the Lord.

Lord, as we face the day, help us overcome

our fears so that we will be able to cherish
every moment we are destined to create.
Also, bless our parents and teachers whose
selflessness never fades. And most
importantly, help us understand Your ways.
All these things we pray in the name of Your
son. Amen.

Thank you, Mica.

2. Greetings
Good morning, class! Good morning, too, sir!

I always tell you to keep your classroom (The students will arrange their chairs and
clean and organize, right? So, before you clean up the mess.)
settle down, kindly arrange your chairs and
clean up the mess around you.
Thank you.

3. Checking of Attendance
Attendance officer, is everybody present? Everybody is present, sir.

Very good, Mendeleev. Keep up your

perfect attendance.

B. Review
Ryeborg, what did we discuss yesterday? Sir, we discussed direct and indirect speech.

Very good, Ryeborg.

Micaela, will you define direct speech? Sir, a direct speech is the reporting of speech
by repeating the actual words used, without
making any grammatical changes.

Very good, Micaela.

Mc Kenny, what is indirect speech? Sir, an indirect speech is a way of reporting

what someone has said. The actual words of
the original speaker are usually changed, in
that the pronouns, time and place adverbials,
and tense are adjusted to the viewpoint of the
person now reporting.

Very good, Mc Kenny.

Do you still have questions regarding We do not have questions anymore, sir.
direct and indirect speech?

Very good, Mendeleev.

C. Motivation
Last night, while browsing on our
Facebook timeline, I received a friend
request from the Chipmunks. I did not
accept it right away because I want to ask
first for your consent. Are you willing to
be friends with them? Yes, sir.

If that so, I will now accept the friend

request.

Oh, the Chipmunks have just sent me a

voice message. Am I going to open it or
just ignore it? Open the voice message, sir.

Are you sure? Yes, sir.

Hello, Teacher Ryan. You always boast

that your students are smart. So, I want to
see whether they can prove it by doing an
activity. Good luck, Mendeleev!

Are you in for the challenge, Mendeleev?

Yes, sir!
But before that, let us divide first your
class into four; GMA, ABS-CBN, TV5,
and CNN.

Your activity is called TAG HUNTING.

Identify the corresponding taglines of
selected business firms or vice versa. You
will be using this ball to determine which
group will answer. As I pass the ball to one
group, pass it also to other groups. The
student holding the ball the moment I said
“Stop!” will be the one to answer for
fifteen seconds only. Each correct answer
is equivalent to a reward. If in case one
group did not get the correct answer, other
groups may steal.

Are there things you want to clarify first

before we proceed?
None, sir.
(The teacher will pass the ball.)
(The students will play the game.)
Stop!

Which product has the tagline “Just Do

It?” Nike, sir.

student a reward.)

(After the game)

D. Presentation of the Lesson (After the game)

What is your activity about, class?

Sir, our activity is about business firms and

Very good. their corresponding taglines.

Where do we usually see those business

firms and taglines?
Sir, we usually see them on television.
Very good.

Why do we see them on television?

It is because companies want to inform us

about their products, as well as to encourage
That is right. us to buy them.

What do you call to that process?

Very good. Advertising, sir.

Today, we are going to discuss

Advertisement. Are you ready?

E. Lesson Proper Yes, sir!

Angelo, will you share to us your insight
about advertisements?
Sir, an advertisement is a means of informing
That is right, Angelo. the public about a certain product.

Advertisement, class, is a way of

communicating business information to the
present and prospective customers. The
qualities of a good advertisement play a
part in informing the public about a certain
product. Some of those qualities are:
 emotion
 humor
 clear message
 effective targeting

For emotion, watch this sample

advertisement that was shared by the
Chipmunks three days ago.

(The students will watch the advertisement.)

What did you feel after watching the video

clip?
Sir, I felt sad.
What do you think now is the purpose of
employing emotions?
Sir, the purpose is to target the audience’s
That is right. emotion.

Aside from emotions, we also have humor.

To discuss it, watch a sample
advertisement that was shared by the
Chipmunks two days ago.

(The students will watch the advertisement.)

Based on the sample advertisement, what

do you think is the positive effect of using
humor? Sir, humor is used to entertain or catch the
viewers’ attention.
Very good. Through humor, the greater is
the chance that the viewers will remember
an advertisement.

In addition to the first two, a good

advertisement also conveys a clear
message.

Eugenio, why do you think an

advertisement must convey a clear
message?
It is to be informed of the use of a product
and the reason viewers should buy it.
Very good, Eugenio. Also, in order to
clearly convey the message of an
advertisement, one must make a catchy
slogan or tagline at the end of the
commercial.

Lastly, we have effective targeting.

Sheena, is it important to identify your

target buyers? Why?
Yes, sir. Because the success of a company
Very good, Sheena. depends on the potential buyers.

Of the many advertisements being

broadcasted on both television and radio,
which product should we believe?

Sting is one of the most famous products

in our country which tagline is “Hayop sa
Sarap. Hayop sa Energy.” Now, let us
watch its advertisement.

(The students will watch the advertisement.)

Based on the advertisement, how effective

is the product?
Very effective, sir. The man, energized after
drinking Sting, was able to run the baggage
Very good. carousel.

Mario, do you like to drink a bottle of

Sting?
Yes, sir.
Please come in front, then.

Now, let us try whether the advertisement (Mario will drink it.)
is really true by carrying Aaron. Aaron,
please come in front. (Mario will carry Aaron.)

Is the product effective?

Therefore, the advertisement is biased or No, sir.

subjective.

Can you still recall our discussion on

biased and factual statements?

Then, Jectofer, will you define factual and Yes, sir.

biased statements?

Sir, a biased statement is one that is

opinionated or is personally influenced by a
Very good, Jectofer. speaker, while a factual statement is one that
can be proven.
(End of discussion)

Do you have questions regarding our

discussion, class?

I am glad to hear that.

None, sir.
(If in case the students have questions, the
teacher is ready to answer them.)

F. APPLICATION
Mendeleev, I received again a voice
message from the Chipmunks. Am I going
to open it or not?

(The teacher will open the voice message.) Open it, sir.
Hello, Mendeleev, I am back. To test
whether you learned something from
Teacher Ryan, I am going to give you your
next task found inside the pop out card
called ADS-TIVITIES. Again, good luck!

Your activity is called JINGLE AD.

Using the same four groups, formulate and
present a jingle using one product from
inside these boxes. Make sure to portray
the qualities of a good advertisement. The
good news is that you can adopt a tune, use
instruments, and give a twist. Please work
as a team because you only have ten
minutes to prepare.

Representatives of each group, please

come in front and choose your box.

(All groups will pick one box for the

activity.)

Your group presentation, class, will be

rated according to the following points:
Use of the Qualities-----35%
Originality----------------20%
Creativity-----------------20%
Presentation--------------15%
Participation-------------10%
TOTAL: 100%

Use of the qualities refers to the qualities

of a good advertisement included in your
performance. Originality refers to whether
your jingle is your own composition.
Creativity refers to giving an artistic flavor
to your jingle. Presentation refers to your
manner of delivering the jingle. And lastly,
participation which refers to your
cooperation.

Now, go find your groupmates and prepare

for your next task.

(After ten minutes)

Your time is over, class. Go back to your

proper places.
(The students will prepare.)
Before we begin the presentation, please
be reminded that you are going to rate and
observe the performances of your (After ten minutes)
classmates using a scoring and observation
sheet. In the scoring sheet, rate them (The students will do as told.)
according to the criteria I gave you a while
ago. In the observation sheet, write down
the factual and biased statements used by
other groups. For group 1, rate and observe
group 2; for group 2, take group 3; for
group 3, take group 4; for group 4, take
group 1.

(The teacher will hand over the scoring

and observation sheet.)

the activity. Good luck, Mendeleev!

Your final task is called WRITE THRU,

an individual activity. This time, you will
be divided into stations, that is, according
to the table you belong in. Your task is to
answer one question per station. You only
have thirty seconds to answer each
question. After the time, move to the next
station until you are done answering all the
six questions. Do the activity on the piece
of paper I gave you a while ago.

Is everything clear, class?

(The teacher will hand over the activity

sheet)

Then, proceed.

Yes, sir.
STATION 1: In your own words, what is
advertisement?

STATION 2: We use information in

constructing sentences. The question is: If a
piece of information is proven false, is the
statement factual? Remember that factual
statements are those that can be proven.

STATION 3: Why do you think companies

use both factual and biased statements?

STATION 4: Which of the following is not a

part of the group?

Chipmunks, are you still there?

Well, Mendeleev, I am so convinced now
that you are really smart. I am sure
Teacher Ryan is proud of you. My only
wish is that, you continue to discover
about the world; the world is a wide array
of knowledge and wisdom. Never stop
searching because what we know is true is
not always enough. Congratulations and
God bless!

Thank you for inspiring my students,

Chipmunks. Till next meeting, my friends.

IV. Assignment
For your assignment, kindly review your
notes for your summative test tomorrow. Is
that clear?

Are there queries that you want to clarify?

Let’s call it a day, then.

God bless, Mendeleev!
