a) Yaitu bila tanah dengan permukaan datar dan dalam keadaan diam atau seimbang, tidak
terganggu oleh gaya-gaya lain kecuali beratnya sendiri
b) Tekanan tanah aktif akan terjadi dan bekerja pada suatu retaining wall apabila retaining
wall tersebut harus menahan longsornya tanah
c) Tekanan tanah pasif akan terjadi dan bekerja pada suatu retaining wall apabila tanah
tersebut harus menahan bergeraknya retaining wall, atau dengan kata lain tekanan tanah
pasif akan terjadi apabila dinding didorong menuju tanah.
