Artifact Description: Dream Home - Design a basic floor plan for your dream house using a
simple drawing application and its tools.

What You Learned: What I learned from this project is that when you are first getting used to
the tools and the application you are using it can be a little frustrating, especially when it will not
do what you want. But once you have a hang of how to use the program and its tools, it becomes
a lot easier, and by the end of it, it was fairly easy to finish it how I wanted. I used PowerPoint to
create my drawing and its tools are easy to learn and use. They are straight forward and have a
good array available. I did learn that you can save PowerPoint slides as a jpeg, which I had been
unaware of before, since it was never something I had needed to even try to do.

National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS)•S Addressed: Standard 4:

Innovative Designer: 4a: Students know and use a deliberate design process for generating ideas,
testing theories, creating innovative artifacts or solving authentic problems.

Adaptation of Skills Learned for the Future: This project teaches the students how to use the
basic drawing tools in different application and how to use them to create or design something.
While these are just the basics, they can be easily built off of in the future. This project is also
easily adaptable based on the grade level, becoming more simple or more advanced based on the
grade. It can also be easily combined with a hand-made portion by having the houses actually be
built out of a number of simple and advance materials. It can be done separate or in groups/pairs,
and is a well-rounded project.
