This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the self-learning module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this self-
learning module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing
them to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and
assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the self-learning module.
For the Learner:
This self-learning module was designed to provide you with fun and
meaningful opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and
time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being
an active learner.
This self-learning module has the following parts and corresponding icons:
Posttest - This measures how much you have learned from the
entire module.

Directions: Read each question carefully. Choose the letter that corresponds to the
correct answer.
1. Beryl Palma is covering Azkals game at the Rizal Memorial Stadium for the
Asian Football Federation Confederation Challenge Cup finals. She is on-
board a helicopter. She is positioned at a 10o angle of depression. The
helicopter is flying at an altitude of 350 meters. How many kilometres is the
helicopter from the point 350 m above the stadium?
A. 2.01 𝑘𝑚 B. 2.02 𝑘𝑚 C. 2.03 𝑘𝑚 D. 2.04 𝑘𝑚
2. From the top of the control tower 250 m tall, an airplane is sighted on the
ground below. If the airplane is 170 m from the base of the tower, what is the
angle of depression of the airplane from the top of the control tower?
A. 55𝑜 47′ B. 55𝑜 48′ C. 56𝑜 D. 55𝑜 49
3. From the top of a cliff 280 m high, the angle of depression of the boat is 25o.
How far is the boat from the base of the cliff?
a. 600.5 𝑚 B. 600.47 𝑚 C. 600.46 𝑚 D. 600.4 𝑚
LESSON
In the previous self-learning module, you have learned how to solve problems
involving angles of elevation. Now, in this self-learning module, we are going to apply
in real-life situations how to solve problems involving the Angle of Depression.
Examples: Solve the following.
1. An observer lying on the top of a hill in Binangonan, Rizal is overlooking the view
of Laguna Lake. Suppose that the hill is 25 meters high, and the angle of depression
of the observer to the lakeshore is 64o11’, what is the distance of the lakeshore to the
foot of the hill?

2. A cat is seen looking at the window of a building. As the cat looks downward, it
saw a garbage can outside. If the window where the cat is seen is 6 meters above the
ground and the garbage can is 2 meters away from the base of the building, what is
the angle of depression of the cat to the garbage can?

VALUING
How do you relate yourself to the given quotation above? Were you able to
experience hardships which made you overcome and become ways to succeed? Share
your thoughts and insights in 3-5 sentences and write these in your notebook.
POSTTEST
Directions: Read each question carefully. Choose the letter that corresponds to the
correct answer.

ship from the top of the mountain?
A. 376.71 𝑚 B. 376 𝑚 C. 376.72 𝑚 D. 376.73 𝑚
4. A boy is seen standing on the highest part of a mango tree. On top of the tree,
he saw an observer looking at him 5 meters away. If the angle of depression
of the boy to the observer is 34o26’, what is the height of the tree?
A. 3.44 𝑚 B. 3.4 𝑚 C. 3.42 𝑚 D. 3.43 𝑚
5. A man is seen on top of a coconut tree. 3 meters away from him is another
